Hello folks, my computer has very fast wired internet speeds, using speedtest i'm able to get over 500mbps of download, downloading Prey on GOG took merely 20 minutes, with the launcher saying im well above 50mb/s, and yet Steam, for no aparant reason, has been extremely slow over the last few months

I am downloading Doom 2016 with the download speed of 6,9MB/s, this isn't slow at all in fact compared to when i used wifi this actually fast, but when compared to other launchers, and knowing the speed of my internet, i am left confused

The other day a buddy of mine plugged in his new pc with a fresh install of windows, and it was well above what i get downloading The Witcher 2 in like 5 minutes

So heres what i've tried to fix and hasn't worked

I've cleared download cache

Set and unset limiters

changed my dns to all sorts of options with some mild success

uninstalled steam and with it all of my games

stopped download throtling when streaming

I am truly at a loss, begining to consider a fresh install of windows, so if you've encountered this issue before, please do post your solution, Thanks!

Do games take several hours to download on Steam due to a slow download speed? While there isn't much you can do if the internet you have is slow, there are a few tweaks you can make within the Steam settings and Windows to speed up the download process if you think it should be faster.

Steam Download Speed Slow But Internet Fast

Before blaming the Steam client, ensure your internet connection isn't slow and causing Steam to take longer than usual to download your games. Testing your connection speed is the best way to confirm that. You can test your connection on any speed test website.

If your download speed is slower than usual, check out our article explaining how to boost your internet speed. If this helps get your internet speed back to normal, try downloading games on Steam again. If nothing seems to work, contact your internet service provider (ISP).

Your VPN's encryption and protocol and your distance to the server can drastically affect your internet speed. Therefore, if you access the Steam client with your VPN enabled, your game may take a long time to download. Thus, it might be worth disabling the VPN and see if that helps.

Like many apps, Steam keeps temporary download data in a download cache. If it gets clogged up, it can affect Steam performance, block the app from running properly, and slow down your downloads. Thus, clearing it might speed up your downloads again.

The Steam app throttles downloads if you've set it to do so when streaming, allowing you to stream at the best speed. This means you'll get good performance at the expense of slow download speeds. If your downloads are getting too slow, this might explain the problem.

I just ran a speed test and it said 896.31 mbps download speed, 947.55 upload speed, and ping of 1ms (Ping isn't usually like that). Even with speeds like that steam downloads at about 5 mb, sometimes drops to 0 and other times will spike to about 20 for a few seconds. I don't have a bandwidth limit on steam, so I'm not sure what is actually causing the issue.

Sometimes though you might find that Steam just isn't downloading fast enough. This could be down to Steam's servers but it could also be something simple causing a download slowdown. There are numerous things you can do fix this though, so we're here to help you with simple tips and tricks worth trying.

I've been having this issue for so long now! For some reason, my internet is blazing fast until I install Hamachi. Certain website downloads are affected but others aren't. for instance, downloading a zip file from "downloads.oneplus.com" WITHOUT Hamachi shows 3 minutes left. AFTER installing Hamachi, that same file now says 20 Minutes.... Same issue happens with Microsoft's download servers, when trying to download the Windows 10 iso, Hamachi just DESTROYS the download speed when my internet is more than capable of downloading large files quickly!

Before installing Hamachi my internet speeds are showing 200Mb/s. After installing it I constantly get 60Mb/s. I have uninstalled Hamachi but nothing changes, is there a setting somewhere that can resolve this?

I use steam and have downloaded games on the Linux version of Steam and on Steam installed in Crossover. I have not noticved slow speeds (games download very fast per the speed of my internet connection).

I also get slower downloads on Steam when running on Linux. But the thing is that both the linux native client and the one running on wine exhibit the same issue. If it were not for using an Intel gigabit NIC and getting better speed on Windows(with the same NIC) I would say that maybe flaky hardware may be at fault:

I couldn't imagine this has anything to do with Codeweavers or even WINE, but more likely your internet connection, your router/modem equipment, conditions surrounding the time of the day (day of the week), or conditions surrounding the server where the content is hosted. Keep in mind that individual websites or services will be located on a discrete server separate from another website or service, so you will be subject to the limits of that server despite your internet connection possibly being faster. Also, depending on your neighborhood, time of the day, or other factors, your actual internet connection can vary as well.

I'd say the server you're downloading from is the one responsible for the lower download speeds. The 5.7 MB/s is by no means slow, but Microsoft has a lot of people hitting their server(s) and they are trying to load balance the traffic, so they can server all customers equally. It is very common that a lot of Internet servers, especially for larger sites, have download rate limiting enabled too.

Lately, I started experiencing problems with my IPTV while downloading something at high speed (Steam or uTorrent). Ok, not a big problem, can wait. It also had some kind of a slow response (but good speed when things start "going") through Wifi, when browsing from phone... Also, not a big deal, I'm not in a hurry and rarely using Wifi and phone for browsing at home.

Ok, no panic, let's do another reset, turn off everything else, just leave my PC on (only phones were connected over wifi, doing nothing). Still a FAIL. There is no chance at all to download at normal speed again. And the worst thing - everything else around (while downloading at 140Mbps) is very slow and unresponsive. IPTV at 1080p doesn't work at all.. pages load slowly. When downloading is stopped, I can go to sleedtest and test 500+/500+ down/up without problems. But while Steam is downloading at those 140Mbps, speedtest can barely hit 10Mbps.

I have cleared the cash

and no antivirus or firewall has it blocked

this is the only game I have that does this

literally, normal downloads for everything else including steam have no issues and go super fast

I am getting slow download speeds on both wired and wifi connections with my new eero 6 Pro setup. On wired ethernet I can get about 400mbps, on wifi about 200mbps. I have gigabit internet with Xfinity BTW. The Internet connection from my router on the eero app shows it delivering 960mbps down. Upload is fine at about 30mbps. Honestly I was expecting a bit more from this product. I see this is a problem in several other discussions but not seeing any suggested fixes, and all kinds of conflicting opinions about what I should expect. If this was normal then why are some users reporting no issues with wired connection while others are having issues?

Thank you for reaching out to us and welcome to the Community! I understand that it can be frustrating when a product is not working as desired but lets start some troubleshooting to try and identify what the cause of the slower speeds might be.

Finally, gamers worldwide have reported that on occasion the Steam download is slower than the speed test. While we agree this is a real problem, there is always room for better interpreting the results.

Hello, everyone. I've just installed steam, but downloading speed is really slow. I'm pretty sure that it's some kind of software problem. I've already tried setting up dnsmasq, and it seem to work. But it didn't solved my problem

Dropbox pro account and encountering the same issue here. Strange that when I change ISPs the download speed improves (downloading from my ADSL office internet connection gets me 2mb/s download) but my home (fibre) ISP download from dropbox is abysmal. My ISP has assured me they don't throttle and I have no trouble with updloads or downloads to other services. I'm on fibre with 25/10 at home but I'm only getting 100-200kbps download from dropbox - what gives? Seriously reconsidering the value of a "pro" account.

If you are seeing slower speeds when downloading then this points to an issue most likely with your network or how your ISP is routing your data. I tested this at home a couple weeks back when someone else posts about the speeds being throttled and was hitting download speeds well in excess of 30MBS. If you are still seeing slow downloads then this you can try the following steps:

@Tasteful-Chaos@Camperfield_X@ If you are seeing slow download speeds then this would point to an issue with your system or network. If you have not ensured that your network is set correctly then you may see issues with speeds, I downloaded Battlefield 4 earlier this week and was hitting over 25 MB for the full download. Please try the steps above to see if they help

Nah man I have all sorts of issues with origin but, as of right now this slow download issue is probably the worst. I have tried your method and I'm still stuck at 1 mb/sec. So you got any other ideas. Because I keep going to different threads with you posting this and still see people complaining its not working and id have to agree with the guys before me. We shouldn't have to go through all this just to properly download something. unless this is internet simulator 1998.

Note - if you have faster than 1 Gbps service, you'll need the appropriate adapter for your PC to archive it's rated speed. 2.5 Gbps and faster USB-C adapters are available for around $30 if you need one.

I found a lot of recommendations regarding turning Smart Connect off and other Wifi setting advice. None of that mattered. Remember the slow speeds were affecting Ethernet too. It was solely caused by bad QoS values being set by the AX11000's default setting to use it's own faulty Speedtest function to set capacity limits. I do wish there was a way in the interface to just turn QoS off! This is the first router I've seen that didn't have that option.

Note too that the AX11000's Speedtest function doesn't say what server it uses. On all my other device Speedtests I've used the same server and got consistent results. 2351a5e196
