Workshops in Taipei

CTE and Mechatronics Engineering Introduction

I have an AWESOME opportunity to teach some workshops in Taipei summer 2019, July 10-28. I'm teaching High School, Junior High and even an Elementary School class. I will also be teaching Teacher, Principals and other Education Administration workshops on how we do CTE here in the US and how I run a Robot Club, Teach Coding, and Engineering to high school Students...

Quick, fun introduction of who Mr. Burnham is... Where I grew up, School, College and Life as an Engineer... and why in the world I became a STEAM teacher

Introduction to my Silicon Valley CTE Mechatronics Engineering Class. Mechatronics Engineering is a year-long, 520-hour Laboratory Science course focusing on the Engineering and Scientific Principles of physics, energy conservation, electronic sensing, computerized data acquisition, robotics, and automated process control. It is University of California A-G approved for "d" Physics. This course is in the CTE Engineering & Architecture Industry Sector, focused on the Engineering Technology CTE pathway. This course is a study of the design of "intelligent" systems in which mechanization and control, requiring sensing, actuation, and computation are combined to achieve improved product quality and performance.

Taipei - Introduction To Raspberry Pi & Python Workshop -- This workshop is an introduction to the Raspberry Pi and Coding in Python. I will teach part of this workshop (1 Day) in summer of 2019 in Taipei. Normally this would be a 4-5 day workshop

Workshop - Flash an LED Lecture and Labs

Workshop / Round Table Discussion - CTE in the U.S.

  • CTE Career Exploration - How do Students learn about career opportunities?
  • Junior College Overview - Why go to a Community College?
  • Starting and Running a Robot Club Workshop -- This workshop is an introduction to how I started and run my Robot Club. I will teach part of this workshop (1 Day) in summer of 2019 in Taipei. This is my Robot Club Project page. All my students in my Mechatronics Engineering class will be on a team and build and play with a "Robot". They will Blog each class and document the process they used to design and build their robots.

Workshop / Discussion - Coding, Sea Perch, Rockets and Robot Club

  • Arduino and C++ Coding - This site is getting worked on, and I'll be updating it this year... but here are some C++ and Arduino resources
  • Sea Perch Build -- This is part of a workshop with 30 Taipei Teachers. We are going to build 10 Sea Perch Submarines... WooHoooo...
    • TinkerCAD - I use this 3D Application to have the students design their Sea Perch Submarines
    • PVC Connectors - I have my Students Download the STL files for the PVC connectors. I have these on my Github site
    • Sea Perch Motor Brackets - Miguel, one of my Awesome students designed this.

jim The STEAM Clown's notes: I don't have any experience with them, other than hearing an interesting interview on NPR that talked about this alternative to college, and then finding it again while I was looking for Scholarship options for students. I might actually take their computer Science classes, and maybe even get the Masters in Education. https://www.uopeople.edu/programs/cs/. Looks like they have made some accreditation partnerships with International Baccalaureate (IB)
