Hola Famlias!!!!
My name is Antonio Rojas. I am a grateful Spanish teacher who works in an incredible school, St Elizabeth! I am from Sevilla, Spain. A city, which by the way, is Kansas City’s Sister City, isn’t that cool?
My wife, Melinda Hedgecorth and I moved from Sevilla, Spain, in 2018 and since then we are enjoying the warmth of the Midwest. Teaching is my passion but also playing the guitar. My favorite food is Sushi and I do love soccer. I am still learning the rules of American Football, which I think is going to take a while for me to understand completely. : )
I do have two sisters, Sandra is a Nurse and María is a police officer.

About Our Spanish Curriculum
At St. Elizabeth School, Spanish is taught to all learners in Kindergarten through 8th grade. Spanish education this school year with The Language Project. This program provides us a teacher and a curriculum to use in presenting Spanish instruction. The Language Project focuses on immersion as the primary element in presenting language to students. Our classroom teacher, Mr. Antonio Rojas, speaks to the students in Spanish as he leads the class in the grade level curriculum.
Who Are We?
The Language Project is super excited to be partnering with St. Elizabeth this year as your Spanish language education providers. They specialize in immersion-style language education for children aged 2 -14 years old. Students will learn Spanish the natural way through a multi-level, play-based, total-immersion curriculum. Classes include dynamic and high-energy games, music, stories, and movement activities to teach practical and conversational Spanish, including reading and writing skills in the language.
Why Learn Early?
Childhood is prime time to learn a second language. During this time, children are able to pick up on language naturally without the explicit explanation of grammar rules that adults struggle with. Additionally, ear and speech muscles in children are more easily able to distinguish different sounds in languages, which result in native-like accuracy and pronunciation in a second language.
The Benefits of Bilingualism
Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world, even before English! By being bilingual in both languages, a child’s brain has enhanced math and problem solving skills, greater decision making skills, a better working memory, better performance on standardized tests, and a new found sense of cultural awareness! We believe that languages are a gift, a gift that lasts a lifetime!
Assessments
The professor will conduct periodic formative evaluations to determine students’ progress. The results of these assessments are used to modify instruction. Students’ language development will be assessed more formally three times a year and a report will be sent home in conjunction with quarterly report cards.
