Statistical learning for Signal and Image Processing Workshop

A Finnish-French workshop.

Date of the workshop : 2019 July 15th - July 16th

Location : Annecy, France (between Grenoble and Geneva). The workshop will be held at the campus of Polytech Annecy Chambéry (Univ. Savoie Mont-Blanc). The location of the site is given at the bottom of the page. This workshop is funded by the ANR ASTRID MARGARITA (ANR-17-ASTR-0015) and the région Auvergne Rhône Alpes.

Subject :

Following the 1st Finnish-French workshop in “Statistical Learning for Signal Processing” that was held at Univ. of Aalto (https://wiki.aalto.fi/display/FFSL4SP18/) in Dec. 2018, we are organizing a second edition, mainly opened to European universities, tackling both methodological aspects of statistical learning and applications challenges in array processing. Main topics encounter robust statistics, machine learning, and information geometry with applications to array processing. This workshop is in line with recent special issues in Signal Processing, namely “Statistical Signal Processing Solutions and Advances for Data Science: Complex, Dynamic and Large-scale Settings” and “Special Issue on Robust Multi-Channel Signal Processing and Applications: On the Occasion of the 80th Birthday of Johann F. Böhme”.

A preliminary program includes a plenary talk of Prof. Esa Ollila on recent advances in statistical learning applied to array processing, a plenary talk dedicated to an overview in machine learning by the guest speaker Prof. Tulay Adali. In addition, several talks will also address the use of differential geometry to solve optimization problems involved with robust statistics (Nicolas Le Bihan, Yannick Berthoumieu, ...). As detailed below, the workshop could welcome 40 people from several European countries (Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden…). This workshop has also an important educational aspect. Indeed, it is open to PhD students, Post Doc and young researcher. Some talks will allow to these participants to have the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art methods in robust signal processing but also an introduction to information geometry. Moreover, this workshop will provide PhD students with a unique networking opportunity and possibility of interaction with leading scientists.
