Cases of a random variable

Six examples of experiments with random variables are:

1. The number of heads after the throw three times a coin,

2. Number of cars per family in one country,

3. Number of clients in a restaurant in one hour,

4. Height of a person,

5. Quantity of liquid in a bottle,

6. Price of a house.

All examples could be generalized with the next definition.

Formal definition of a random variable

It is a variable x whose value is determined by the result of a random experiment. If this variable random x takes on:

countable values, it is said discrete random variable: the first three previous examples.
contained values on one or more intervals, then it is said to be a variable continuously random: the three last previous examples.
