CANON DIVERGEANCE/HEADCANONS:

In following with the Big Finish Audio "Master", he is the eternal Death’s Champion. Although his human counterpart as John Smith in it forgives the Doctor for trading him off to be Death’s Champion, the Master doesn’t, and it’s one of the reasons he is mad with the Doctor.
I also follow with The End of Time’s four-beat drums in the Master’s head being another reason for the way he is. Blame Rassilon who used him and discarded him after.
I’m sorry, but I DON’T follow The Timeless Child plot. Thank you.
I will acknowledge the events of the Master trying to take the Doctor's body for their own in the episode "The Power of the Doctor" happening despite not following The Timeless Child arc.

PERSONALITY

The Master is the polar opposite of the Doctor in almost every respect; condescending, arrogant, vain, and lusting for power. However, the Master's insanity was in part due to the High Council from Gallifrey's future sending a four-beat rhythm of drums into the Master's mind, with the Tenth Doctor recalling that staring into the Untempered Schism as a child had been "how it all started" for the Master.

Comfortable with their villainous reputation, the Master took insults about their wickedness as compliments, and reacted with offence if someone asked them if they had turned over a new leaf, to the point that they refused to even acknowledge the Doctor's attempts to change them.

The Master's schemes usually fell into three categories; conquest, survival, and the death of the Doctor. Similar to the Monk, the Master would also, on occasion, attempt to disturb the flow of history, and, when imprisoned, would devote their energies to gaining their freedom.

Throughout their lives, the Master would adopt many disguises and aliases, often to pursue their goals, though other times with no reason or explanation given. In a show of vanity, the Master's choice of alias would often reflect their title of "Master".

High Council President Borusa described the Master as "one of the most evil and corrupt beings [the] Time Lord race [had] ever produced" and that his "crimes [were] without number, and [his] villainy without end." Rassilon described the Master as the Time Lords' "most infamous child".

BIOGRAPHY

Born to the House of Oakdown on Gallifrey, he went by the nickname "Koschei." Despite growing up raised in a wealthy and highly respected family, the Master found childhood to be nothing more than a sense of duty. His parents were usually angry people and didn’t care if he excelled at school or not, getting the highest grades in the class. When he was 8 years old, he looked into the Untempered Schism like every child on Gallifrey did for initiation into the Academy, and went mad by the raw power of time, hearing the sound of drums calling out to him since then. He graduated from the Academy, receiving a degree in Cosmic Science.

After sometime, he eventually left Gallifrey, looking to find himself by trying to rule the universe. However, his plans always seemed to go astray, especially once he was reunited with his old friend, the Doctor, who he constantly tries to be a thorn in the side to. When not being in a battle of wits with their Best Enemy, the Master is usually trying to take over the universe, destroying planets, making civilizations fall and being Death’s Champion.

Just a young kid. With the drums newly in his head, Koschei Oakdown hasn’t become corrupted or driven mad yet. But once his best friend, Theta, saves him from their bully, Torvic, and making a deal with Death to spare himself and take Koschei on as Death’s Champion, it is one of the things that starts to lead him on the path to becoming the Master and breaking down his friendship with Theta.

Koschei as an adult. He’s been plagued by the drums for awhile now, and is haunted by the guilt of something he’s never really done. An Anti-Hero, not yet a Villain, he’s barely hanging on and trying to do the best he can. However, once he hears news of the Doctor leaving Gallifrey, Koschei decides to do the same. He travels the stars, trying to help others in his own way and taking on a companion of his own. All he wants is to help bring order and stability to the universe. However, once he comes across the Darkheart and finds out his own people have been spying on him, thinking he is unstable, this is where his path in the dark as the Master truly begins.

VERSE ;; The Saxon Master

– 𝚅𝙴𝚁𝚂𝙴 𝙸𝙽𝙵𝙾:

After escaping from the Time War, being reunited with the Doctor in Utopia and breaking free from his fobwatch disguise as Professor Yana, the Master comes up with plans of his own. First; become Prime Minister and then take over the world to make his own New Time Lord Empire, making the Doctor watch on helplessly. When that fails, he has a back up plan in being resurrected before discovering the truth behind the drum beats in his head; it was all Rassilon’s doing in order to bring Gallifrey back.

However, once he confronts the Lord President on it and gets the drums removed from his head, the Master escapes Gallifrey yet again, traveling the universe.
