PERSONALITY

When she is first introduced, Shiemi is a very shy, quiet and naive young girl, having grown up almost never going outside due to a childhood illness and later the grief of losing her grandmother. She is rather clueless about typical adolescent experiences, and greatly desired to make new friends. This made her very easy to take advantage of, as she believed that Izumo treating her like an errand girl was just something that real friends did to each other. She considers herself too young for romance, saying that she just doesn't have the time or comfort level for a boyfriend, especially since she wants to focus on becoming an Exorcist. She also starts rather clumsy, frequently tripping, though she overcomes this after swapping her kimono for a school uniform.

Nevertheless, Shiemi is very kind and optimistic and treats everyone she meets with respect, even if they don't always return the favor. Her exceptional kindness, immense willpower, and good nature has made her popular with the Exwires. Izumo describes her as someone who's "always cheerful in a ditsy way" but is able to approach anyone without fear of who they are. However, Shiemi doesn't see herself this way, since she gets really scared of Rin after learning that he's the son of Satan, to the point that she's unable to talk to him anymore, and hates herself for it. When Rin is in danger of being executed, and thinks he'd be better off dead, however, Shiemi overcomes her fears and hugs him to cool him down.

Shiemi also has several odd habits, such as giving nicknames to various herbs and other plants. She once failed a test on plants because she didn't use their real names. Additionally, when Izumo laments that she can't believe she's friends with someone like Shiemi, who's "as shameless as a weed", Shiemi takes it as a pep talk and vows to become "as strong as a weed".

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

Shiemi and her family are descended from Shemihaza, the Emperor of Creation. and she was born at in the Garden of Amahara, her family's ancestral home. When Shiemi was six, her father was murdered by a demon and she withdrew into herself, losing almost all of her memories and becoming largely unresponsive. For Shiemi's well-being, her family moved to True Cross Academy Town, with her grandmother taking care of her while her mother took on more responsibilities for the Grigori.

Shiemi spent the rest of her youth confined to her home at Futsumaya, tending gardens with her grandmother and eventually befriending the young Yukio Okumura. Following her grandmother's death, Shiemi was taken advantage of by a Dekalp, a plant demon that slowly drained her of her life energy. After Rin and Yukio Okumura exorcised the demon, she enrolled at True Cross Academy to become a Tamer.

After learning about her heritage from her mother, Shiemi decided to train to become the new Shemihaza. With the help of Mephisto's magic, Shiemi was able to stay in Amahara for two years, training and honing her abilities as much as she could before returning to Assiah to join the fight.
