Hope Wildheart
Hope Wildheart
❝ My rancid blood whispers to me: Kill, kill, and kill again. My ruined body yearns to reap death in this world, and when this foul Urge calls, it possesses my whole being. Injured beyond repair, I know nothing besides this: I must resist the Dark Urge, lest it consume my mind. I must discover who I was, and what happened to me. Before my twitching knife-hand writes a tragedy in blood. ❞

PERSONALITY
Prior to her amnesia, Hope was a much more cold and calculated individual than her bloodkin, Orin the Red. She believed in killing for killing's sake, preferring practical and simple methods over flair and grace, and took issue with extravagant or needlessly creative killings. She was deeply loyal to Bhaal and never disobeyed him.
BIOGRAPHY
The Dark Urge aka Hope is a Bhaalspawn, but unlike other Bhaalspawn, she was not born – Bhaal created her from a piece of his dead flesh. She is the only Bhaalspawn who had the guarantee of murder, the Urge, woven into her blood.
Hope grew up outside the Cult of Bhaal, and was at some point taken in by a poor couple in Baldur's Gate who gave her the name, Hope. She had a relatively peaceful childhood for a time, before succumbing to the Urge and murdering her loved ones and foster parents.
Eventually, Hope became the leader of the Cult of Bhaal, and pledged to end all life in existence for her father Bhaal. At some point, fellow Bhaalspawn Orin the Red joined and became their second-in-command.
Enver Gortash contacted Hope after reestablishing worship of Bane, and the two formed an alliance upon discovering common goals. They were visited in their dreams by Bhaal and Bane, who named them their Chosen and commanded them to ally with Ketheric Thorm, the Chosen of Myrkul. Gortash and Hope hatched a plan to steal the Crown of Karsus in a heist at Mephistopheles' Vault by having Helsik open a gate to Mephistar for them.
After the heist was successful, Gortash suggested that they use the Crown on the elder brain located in the illithid colony below Moonrise Towers. Hope agreed to the plan so that she could fulfil her pledge to her Lord: she would create an army of soulless mind flayers, and with the help of this army she would exterminate all life — including, as the last being alive, her own. Fully intent on eventually betraying the other Chosen, Hope joined Enver Gortash and Ketheric Thorm at Moonrise Towers.
At Moonrise Towers, Hope was treated like a god, and although nobody knew her name or rank, she was shown the utmost respect. The three Chosen initiated a raid on the mind flayer colony, and successfully used the Crown on the colony's elder brain, enslaving it to their will. At some point during this, the elder brain came to respect Hope and intended to go along with her plan, impressed by her unmatched cruelty.
After Hope put the Crown on the elder brain, she was soon betrayed by her sister ,Orin the Red, who was jealous of Bhaal's favouritism. Hope had her skull pierced and opened with a dagger, and was infected with a tadpole that began to eat her liquidating brain, resulting in her amnesia, as well as her becoming the first True Soul.
Hope was found by Kressa Bonedaughter who, impressed with her willpower and resistance to the elder brain's influence, began to study her. She would cut her open and put her back together repeatedly over the course of several days in the mind flayer colony, during which Hope was unable to speak or do anything but attempt to inflict violence on herself or others.
Noticing his wife's obsession and hoping to snap her out of it, Kressa's husband, Maghtew Budj, arranged for the broken and amnesiac Hope to be sent off on the Nautiloid Ship, where she would soon wake up with no memories of herself, or of her past.
PERSONAL QUEST
The Dark Urge's unique quest, The Urge, has two distinct paths: The character can either resist their urges or embrace them.
If they resist the Urge and reject their legacy, Bhaal drains them of their unholy blood, resulting in their death, but Withers intervenes and brings them back to life, explaining that the loss of unholy blood through their heroism has not destroyed them but made them reborn as a new person. The rest of Act Three and its endings then play out the same as in other playthroughs beyond pre-existing dialogue differences from characters like the Netherbrain.
If they embrace the Urge and accept their legacy, they become Bhaal's Chosen once again and are tasked with resuming their plan to control the Absolute and kill all other beings. If they follow through and take control of the Netherbrain, the Dark Urge is confronted afterward by either their romantic partner or the companion with the highest approval, who scolds or praises them (depending on who it is and how their companion quest ended) for bringing about the end of the world; they can either mercy-kill that companion, kiss them goodbye while stabbing them (if romanced), or release all the surviving companions, telling them to run away. The Urge then uses the Netherbrain's power to kill everyone in the city with conjured daggers, and as they do so they are given a premonition of their success, worshipping Bhaal under a blood-red moon as the last living thing in Faerûn.
If they embrace the Urge but do not obey Bhaal's orders, Bhaal begins to shred their mind mere minutes after destroying the Netherbrain as the party is leaving to celebrate. The Dark Urge can either accept their fate, turn themself into prison, attempt to fight back, or simply kill themself before Bhaal gets the chance, reuniting with a proud Withers in the Fugue Plane. If the latter is not chosen, however, they show up in a shortened version of the Epilogue, bloodsoaked and insane due to the madness Bhaal has left them with, and they plot to kill all their former companions in their sleep while licking Bloodthirst.

You really can't help it, can you? These vile things you do... Don't you wonder why you're doing them? You must really have been an awful person before the crash... Perhaps it's better that you forgot about it. But you want to know, don't you?
At night, you dream of a dead world. Lakes of gall, pulsating heaps of expired flesh. You're the only living being. When the red sun burns out, you drive the last dagger through your heart.
Oh, don't look so scandalised. This is definitely not the first time you've done this. Alfira may have grown up to become the age's great songstress, but you - you can be the most prolific killer in the history of the Realms! It will be easy - you can do it in your sleep!
Sceleritas Fel is a murderer's murderer. He will set you right. Don't worry, as I'm sure you can tell, you can't help but be a prodigy spree-killer. It's in your perfect nature. While you may have forgotten your past, you can't forget what you were best at! Just follow your Butler. You can trust him!
It's been a rough tenday. Everything hurts, your headache is just getting worse, and the tadpole is a nuisance. It's hard to find the inspiration to lift your daggers for pleasure after a long day. But you're denying yourself the one outlet you have: murder! Nothing compares. Try it! After all, you're going to reap death upon the world sooner or later. Make it sooner!
You didn't intend to spare the cleric, did you? Surely not. You're just waiting for the perfect, tragic moment to strike. Build up her trust in you... Then let her fall. Yes, that must be your plan. Go back and kill her. Run along.
The Butler gave you another chance. Kill your darling. But you didn't - you spent the night tied up, playing out a farce as a wriggling, squirming slug. Humiliating. You can be so much more than that. Come back to yourself.
You had a vision divine. The truth is restored: you are a pureblood Spawn of Bhaal. The former head of his Temple. Return, and kill sister Orin who usurped your place. Return, and restore your birthright: to lead the cult of murder until all in this world dies by your hand.
I escaped. The hold that Bhaal had over me is gone. All the voices in my head, and the rushes in my blood - I cured them at last! It's strange to think, but I can do whatever I want to. Be whoever I want to! I'm finally me. These thoughts won't talk to me any longer.
Special, yes, special, aren't you? Ssh, don't fight it. You know what you need to do. Take up that knife, do what you do best. Easy as breathing. You'll feel better after.

You like to indulge those Urges of yours. Good. It doesn't matter that you have amnesia. The instincts in your body are kicking in, and you are behaving like your old sinner self again. The Dark Urge is back, back with bloody style.
Is-o-bel. Cleric of Selûne. Defender of Last Light. Died summer 1492 DR. Slap it on a headstone - doesn't it sound right? The Butler told you to kill her. The Butler knows what's best for you. He knows how to get your old life back. Isn't that all you want? To find out who you were, and get back to being that glorious old butcher?
Isobel is a corpse carried away on the wind. Last Light is desecrated. Such a sublime release of all your pent-up frustration. You did well, and this deed will not go without proper acknowledgement.
The Slayer now ravages your body. When it is dormant, you feel it champing at the bit. When it is summoned, you dissolve into the beast. It is an ancient symbol of hate. Hate well. You've earned it.
You had a vision divine. The truth is restored: you are a pureblood Spawn of Bhaal. The former head of his Temple. Return, and kill sister Orin who usurped your place. Return, and restore your birthright: to lead the cult of murder until all in this world dies by your hand.
YOU ARE BHAAL'S DREAD PROPHET, THE CHOSEN ORDAINED TO BE THE LAST LIVING BEING. WHEN ALL ELSE HAS BEEN REAPED BY YOUR HAND, THE FINAL DEATH IN THESE FOUL PLANES SHALL BE YOUR OWN. TAKE COMMAND OF THE ELDER BRAIN. TAKE COMMAND OF ITS POSSESSED ARMIES. SET THEM UPON SLAUGHTER OF USELESS FAERÛN, THEN UPON EVERY FRAIL LIFE IN THIS COSMOS. Congratulations, Dark Urge. You're a champion!
According to codex, when Falon'Din and Elgar'nan found themselves in an argument, Mythal defused the situation by suggesting that they appoint their knights to battle in their stead, thus avoiding a civil war among the gods. Falon'Din's champion lost the duel. Falon'Din's vanity and desire for worshipers was so great he started brutal wars to gain more, killing all who would not bow to him. Only once Mythal rallied the other gods and they attacked Falon'Din in his own temple did he surrender.
However, there was one who still continued to bow to Falon'Din and one who he would come to claim as his new champion--- Hope Wildheart.
Hope is an ancient elf that is chosen to be Falon'Din's (the elven god of death and fortune) champion. She takes on his vallaslin and secretly fights for his name, hiding in the shadows and in dreams, helping to guide others to her master through the Fade, searching for a way to set him free once he is locked away with the rest of the Evanuris.
