Why Refurbish Books?

Did you know that about 320 million books end up in landfills instead being properly recycled or refurbished? Not only is this bad for the Earth, but it can keep others from accessing books too. This needs to stop. Instead of throwing them away, there are lots of fun things that you can do with old books that are still useful and safe for the environment. So instead of throwing them away or shoving them in the back of your closet, try a new way to reuse them!

Donate, Donate, Donate!

Whether it's giving them to a friend or taking them to a local library, donating books is an amazing way to refurbish books! It gives other people more opportunities to read, and to increase their knowledge. Just make sure the books are mainly in good condition before donating.


A fun way to refurbish books is to turn them into crafts! You could turn them into a room decor item, a gift for a friend, and more. The possibilities are endless! Here are just a few examples:

If you must dispose of some books, the best way to do it is to recycle them. You can usually all books can be placed in your curbside recycling bin, but the binding on hardcover books must be removed prior to this. By recycling, you can reduce the amount of books that end up in landfills, and prevent more trees from being cut down for creating new books. Also, recycled books can be turned into new books, or other items.
