The President of the United States (Trump) has repeatedly said he wants to annex Canada, using economic force to do so.
There is one inconvenient fact: the US depends a lot on Canada. Our tourism, trade and resources help fuel the American economy. It's time to turn off every tap we can to stop propping up the American economy.
Don't travel to the US. Don't buy anything from the US. Try not to buy any goods or services from an American company.
Discover companies like Green Beaver, North of Fifty, and other great Canadian retailers and suppliers. (Note: I have zero real or potential conflicts of interest with these companies.).
When you shop for groceries, try to buy "Product of Canada" goods (they are at least 98% made in Canada). Otherwise, go for "Made in Canada" goods (at least 50% of their value is produced in Canada) or products from other countries (aside from the US).
And absolutely DO NOT BUY a Tesla.
Sign the Pledge for Canada. It's all about keeping our country our own and what you can do to help.
This means it's time to fully embrace every one who is here on this soil.
This means calling people out on discriminatory speech and acts.
This means reading and doing your part to implement the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
This means standing up for everyone's rights: Indigenous, Black, Racialized, Women, Trans and Non-Binary, Disabled, 2SLGBTQ+.
Stand up strong, stand up loud. Be anti-racist, anti-fascist, anti-sexist, anti-ableist, and fully inclusive. And wear high-quality masks indoors to make public spaces accessible to all.
There's a federal election brewing, and a number of provincial/territorial elections underway or on the horizon.
Vote for people who have consistently shown they are ethical, are open about their policies, and do not discriminate against others. Vote for people who don't lie. Vote for people who don't hate. Vote for people who worked against the trucker convoy, not for those who supported them.
Vote, but also help out if you can to elect non-hating, non-convoy, non-lying politicians. Help make phone calls, knock on doors, put up signs, donate.
Wear RED. Sing O Canada as often you can, as loud as you can. Listen to Canadian music. Watch Canadian entertainment. Read Canadian books.
Please be open to your family, friends, colleagues, neighbours, and even random people you meet in the grocery store. Tell them about what you are doing to stand up to this American threat to our sovereignty. Share about ACE bread, Peace by Chocolate, and the trip you just booked to Newfoundland and Labrador,* Inuvik, or The Forks in Winnipeg.
Tell them how you chose to Stand Up for Canada. And listen to how they are doing the same.
