11th June at CVPR 2025 // 12:45pm - 6pm // Room 209 A-C
A forum to reflect on personal growth & unique identity in a rapidly evolving field.
In today’s rapidly evolving field of computer vision, standing out has become a daunting challenge. With the overwhelming pace of research and the flood of new papers, it’s all too easy for even significant work to get lost in the noise. Sometimes even genuine novelty isn’t enough—scaling up, speed of execution, and other factors also become important. With 10k+ papers a year, doing " different " work is also becoming challenging, especially for early-stage researchers, who may want some time and cycles to figure out the ropes and their niche.
This issue extends beyond individual careers; it speaks to the future of our field. In this workshop, we’ll ask some pressing questions: How to be different in a competitive research environment? What does it take for researchers to make a meaningful impact? With a focus on constructive solutions and eye on sustainably building the next generation of researchers & ideas, we will discuss the following key themes:
Defining a Unique Research Path
Overcoming Rank / Brand Hurdles
Emerging Research Areas
Advocating and Promoting Students
Navigating the Pressure of Publishing
Open Forum for Community Insights
StandOut CV is not merely a response to these challenges, but a call to action. It’s an opportunity for the entire community to reflect on building unique identities and contributing to a vibrant field. By helping researchers identify their unique voice and path, this workshop aims to ensure that the community remains a vibrant, creative, and inclusive space where all ideas, not just the loudest, can flourish.
