Soil compaction at Longneck Lagoon EEC is most commonly caused by repeated foot traffic in an area. Soil compaction results in decreased water absorption by the soil and can restrict the ability of plants to grow.

Soil compaction at Longneck Lagoon EEC is calculated by measuring the depth that a soil spike can be pushed into the soil.

Use one hand to push the spike into the soil.

Use your finger or thumb to mark the soil level.

Remove the spike from the soil.

Record the soil depth in cm.

Repeat these steps at the next site being sure to use consistent pressure at each site.
