SSC or Staff Selection Commission is an organization that comes under the Government of India that conducts various competitive exams every year to recruit candidates for various posts. Eligibility Criteria
While filling the forms of SSC CHSL and SSC CGL, you should be aware of the eligibility criteria for both the exams. For SSC CHSL, the candidate should be 18 years and less than 27. Also, the student must pass the 12th Standard or an equivalent examination from a recognized board or university. On the other hand, SSC CGL requires a Bachelor’s Degree in any course from a reputed university or board, and the candidate should be 18 years of age and less than 32 years (depending on different posts).
Exam Pattern
SSC CHSL
The exam is of 3 stages: Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3.
The Tier 1 exam is a multiple-choice test that contains subjects such as General Awareness, General Intelligence and Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension.
Tier 2 is a descriptive paper conducted to test the students' written skills in English/Hindi. The paper consists of an Essay writing of 200-250 words and Letter/Application writing of 150-250 words.
Tier 3 is of specific skill tests that are necessary for the selected post.
There is also a typing test required from some posts.
SSC CGL
SSC CGL consist of 4 stages: Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, and Tier 4.
Tier 1 and 2 are an online test, and Tier 3 is a pen-paper test. Tier 4 is a computer skill test, which is two steps.
Tier 1 consists of 4 subjects – General Awareness, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, and English.
Tier 2 also has 4 subjects – Quantitative ability, Statistics, General studies, and English Language.
Tier 3 is a descriptive English paper.
There is a negative marking concept followed in SSC CGL of 0.25 marks.

SSC CHSL
The jobs under SSC CHSL are clerical levels such as LDC (Lower-division clerk) and DEO (Data entry operator).
DEOs are responsible for updating and maintaining documents, creating and entering all the relevant and essential data in the computer database.
As a DEO, you need to write letters in the absence of LDCs.
The role of LDC is to handle the clerical work, which includes documentation and co-ordination with the seniors.
There are promotion opportunities in both the jobs, depending on the departments.
SSC CGL

The basic salary under CGL after the 7th Pay Commission is around 18,000, and the maximum wage may go on to Rs.50,000. The salary also varies according to the different posts.
