We invite you to submit papers (full papers & work in progress) to the 4th Symbiotic Society with Avatars (SSA) workshop. The SSA workshop will take place during the 2025 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2025) in Hangzhou, China.
When: October 20th from 13:00 to 17:00.
Where: Hangzhou International Expo Center (HIEC), Room 404.

Avatar robots enhance remote individuals’ capabilities. They can transcend geographical constraints (beyond space) by controlling multiple avatars simultaneously and move from one location to another instantaneously (beyond time) by connecting to avatars in different locales. However, several technical and knowledge gaps stand in the way of realizing this vision, including legal and ethical guidelines, knowledge of how people interact with and through avatar robots, and development of avatar robot systems and their interfaces.
This workshop continues to serve as a pivotal forum for ad-dressing these issues. We aim to bring together experts from human-robot interaction, robotics, psychology, sociology, and industry, and provide them a place to gather and discuss the latest advancements and challenges in avatar technology. By fostering dialogue and collaboration, this workshop will pave the way toward a symbiotic society where avatars seamlessly integrate into our social fabric.

SSA aims to bring together Human-Robot Interaction researchers who are actively working in the areas of teleoperation, social robotics, virtual agents, etc.
All papers submitting to this workshop must be submitted in PDF format. We are following the IROS double column format. Templates are available at the following links: link and Overleaf link.
The submission can be in any length, but we encourage to keep them within 6 pages + references for research paper or 2 pages + references for work-in-progress paper. The authors of accepted papers will be asked to present their work in the workshop. Please submit your paper by sending the document to this address (iros2025ssa@robot.soc.i.kyoto-u.ac.jp).
