GRADE 9(ENG1D)

Week 1: Sept 3 - 6

Khayr in shaa Allah in the upcoming school year. Students are asked to acquire the Sightlines 9 textbook and a separate English binder. We will be reading short stories and doing personal reflections for homework.

Week 2: Sept 9 - 13

Students are asked to acquire the reading material from the library, home or bookstore for quiet reading. Friday Everything Changed and Lamb to the slaughter are currently being read to educate the students on literary terms. A Grammar Quiz has been scheduled on Tuesday.

Week 3: Sept 16 - 20

Parents and students are reminded to acquire the reading material from the library, home or bookstore for quiet reading as well as the Novel Study novel (9: To Kill a Mockingbird 10: Lord of the Flies). A Literary Terms Quiz has been scheduled for Friday.

Week 4: Sept 23 - 27

Test week! Students are required to study for the upcoming tests. The tests mark the end of Unit 1 and parents and students are reminded to acquire the Unit 2 Novel Study novel (9: To Kill a Mockingbird 10: Lord of the Flies). Students are also asked acquire the reading material from the library, home or a bookstore for quiet reading.

Week 5: Sept 30 – Oct 4

Unit 2 has officially started! We will be beginning the novel study, reading the novel together as a class. Parents and students are reminded to acquire the Unit 2 Novel Study novel (9: To Kill a Mockingbird 10: Lord of the Flies). Students are also asked acquire the reading material from the library, home or a bookstore for quiet reading.

Week 6: Oct 7 – 11

Quiz (Date to be determined). We will be reading the respective novels in class and doing related activities. For each chapter, homework questions will be assigned to students.

We will be reading the respective novels in class and doing related activities. For each chapter, homework questions will be assigned to students.

Week 8: Oct 21 – 25

Students are required to keep up with the chapter readings and study questions (To Kill A Mockingbird for 9 and Lord Of The Flies 10). Final projects are assigned and explained.

Week 9: Oct 28 – Nov 1

Students are required to keep up with the chapter readings and study questions (To Kill A Mockingbird for 9 and Lord Of The Flies 10). Final projects are assigned and explained.

Week 10: Nov 4 - 8

Grade 9 will have their second To Kill a Mockingbird Quiz this week on Chapter 12-20.

Grade 10 will be presenting their group debates.

Week 11: Nov 11 - 15

9 will be reading and answering questions for chapters 20-23 of To Kill A Mockingbird.

10 will be reading and answering questions for chapters 9-10 of Lord Of The Flies.

Week 12: Nov 18 - 22

9 will be reading and answering questions for chapters 23-25 of To Kill A Mockingbird.

10 will be reading and answering questions for chapters 11-12 of Lord Of The Flies.

Week 13: Nov 25 - 29

9 will be reading and answering questions for chapters 26-28 of To Kill A Mockingbird.

10 will have a Unit Test for Lord Of The Flies on Friday.

Week 14: Dec 2 – 6

9 will be finishing up To Kill A Mockingbird and will have their Unit Test on Wednesday.

10 will start their presentations on a chosen theme from Lord of the Flies.

Week 15: Dec 9 – 13

9 &10: Started learning the writing process for essays

9-Persuasive writing exercises- Final Essay Due

10-Argumentative writing practice- Final Essay Due

Week 16: Dec 16 - 20

9: Students will begin the reading of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice and will be answering discussion questions along the way.

10: Students will begin the reading of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and will be answering discussion questions along the way.

9: Students will continue reading Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice and will be answering discussion questions along the way.

9: Students will be presenting with their groups a performance of Act 4 along with their written scripts. Summative presentations will begin, and will be followed by an Exam review.

10: Students will be wrapping up Julius Caesar and the unit will be completed with a Unit Test Summative presentations will begin, and will be followed by an Exam review.
