A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada is a world-renowned monk in the Bhakti Yoga tradition. He dedicated his life to translating the essence of ancient spiritual wisdom from the sanskrit language. Srila Prabhupada was instructed by his spiritual teacher (Guru) to translate these essential teachings into english and share the knowledge in the Western world. Srila Prabhupada spent many years in preparation for this huge mission- writing, studying, translating, working hard and meditating in India. From 1962-1965 he stayed in Vrindavana, India and began the task of translating the first volume of the Srimad Bhagavatam encyclopedia.
Then in 1965, aged 69 years old, Prabhupada boarded a cargo ship with 200 three-volume sets of Srimad Bhagavatam and very few other possessions. He arrived in America with the intent of sharing this knowledge with the world. With simply his books and pure intent to uplift the well-being and awaken divine love in all living beings- he ignited a global awakening of spiritual consciousness based on Srimad Bhagavatam. In the 12 years following, he circled the globe 14 times, opened 108 spiritual centres, farms, temples, vegetarian restaurants and eco-communities and published 80 volumes of books.

"There are many varieties of scriptures, and in all of them there are many prescribed duties, which can be learned only after many years of study in their various divisions. Therefore, O sage, please select the essence of all these scriptures and explain it for the good of all living beings, that by such instruction their hearts may be fully satisfied."
