HOW TO BEAM RAISE AN EXTENSION OR ROOF LADDER, ONE PERSON HIGH SHOULDER METHOD


1. Position ladder

a. Lying flat on the ground

2. Take position

a. Facing tip of ladder

b. Near the middle of ladder

i. Kneeling

c. Maintaining proper body mechanics

i. Back Straight

3. Beam ladder

a. Lifting away from body

i. Using inside hand

4. Take position

a. Next to beamed ladder

5. Walk to tip of ladder

6. Lift ladder

a. Using legs

b. Back straight

i. Pivoting 180 degrees

c. Place outside hand beneath bottom beam

i. To high shoulder carry

ii. Setting lower beam on shoulder

7. Move toward ladder base

a. To find balance

i. Bend at knees

ii. Pick ladder up off ground

8. Carry ladder towards objective

a. Butt of ladder angled slightly downward

9. Check and clear overhead

a. Obstructions

b. Electrical hazards

10. Spot ladder

a. Lower butt i. Knees bent

ii. Lowering beam only

11. Raise ladder

a. To vertical position

b. With both arms extended

12. Pivot ladder (if needed)

a. Until rungs are parallel to wall

13. Extend fly (if applicable)

a. Visualize and verbalize pawls locked

14. Heel ladder

a. One foot on rung

15. Lower ladder

a. Against objective i. Gently

16. Announce ladder ready to climb
