HOW TO MAKE A HYDRANT LDH STEAMER/DOUBLE BROKEN OASIS
1. Command “Make the Hydrant” is given by the Officer
a. Firefighter leaves riding position and goes to the tailboard
b. Fastening device for appliance is removed
2. Remove hydrant appliance
a. Place one arm through the hydrant strap
b. Remove appliance with both hands and carry to hydrant, place on ground
3. Place hydrant strap on hydrant
a. Around the thimble
4. Signal for the engine to “take off”
a. Verbally and visually signal by shouting “take off” with a forward hand movement
b. Stand clear of hose in case of hang up with supply hose
5. Remove fitting bag
a. Obtain hydrant wrench and necessary fittings
6. Remove cap from selected outlet
a. Using hydrant wrench
b. Place cap on top of hydrant (bonnet)
7. Place hydrant wrench on stem
a. For selected outlet
8. Place appliance on hydrant – Broken/damaged swivel
a. For 4 ½” outlet, place 4 ½ '’ x 3 ½” reducer on steamer port
i. Remove LDH from Oasis valve
ii. Connect LDH to 4 ½” x 3 ½” reducer
b. For 2 ½” outlet, place 4 ½” x 3 ½” reducer on 2 ½” to 4 ½” increaser already installed on 2 ½” port
i. Remove LDH from Oasis valve
ii. Connect LDH to 4 ½” x 3 ½” reducer
9. Unclip hydrant strap
a. Clear strap from hydrant, leave attached to hose to remove kinks if necessary
10. Receive signal for water
a. Verbally from the engine
b. Verbally by radio
c. Visually if you can see clamp in place
11. Charge hydrant
a. Slowly turn on all the way then back ¼ turn
12. Remove kinks at hydrant
a. Using hose strap
13. Follow supply line to engine
a. Remove any kinks found
14. Inform Engineer the Oasis is OOS, not connected to the hydrant
