HOW TO ADVANCE AN UNCHARGED HOSELINE UP A GROUND LADDER


1. Firefighter takes position

a. Near base of ladder

b. Hose line near ladder base

c. On same side as window opening


2. Place hose line

a. Across chest

b. Over shoulder

c. Nozzle resting mid back


3. Climb ladder

a. Keeping hose line to one side of feet

b. Using both hands for climbing

c. Hose should not cross ladder rungs


4. Firefighter lays nozzle down

a. In window

b. Before entering

i. Maintain 3 points of contact on extension ladder


5. Firefighter enters window

a. Sounds floor with foot


6. Pull hose line into window

a. Required amount


7. Secure hose line

a. With hose strap

i. Below coupling

ii. With larks foot

b. Under beam of ladder

c. Over rung of ladder

d. Around next rung higher of ladder

e. Secure with hook on strap

i. Rung lower on ladder


8. Flake out hose

a. Ensure no kinks


9. Call for water

a. Bleed air and check nozzle pattern

i. Away from fire
