"Allah has made trade lawful and usury forbidden" (Surah Baqarah: 275).

Allah Ta'ala has prohibited all types of usury in the Holy Quran. The restrictions imposed on us by Allah are for our welfare.

The Arabic word 'Riba' means usury. The word riba means increase, increase, extra, surplus. Taking anything in excess of the principal is called interest. Usury is a serious disease of society. And this is why Allah has prohibited usury and made business lawful.

Poor people are further reduced to extreme poverty by the terrible clutches of interest. As a result, chaos and socio-economic inequality came into the society. Referring to the horrors of usury, Allah says:

"Those who take usury will stand in the arena of the Day of Resurrection, as the person whom the devil seduces and seduces. The reason for their condition is that, they say, buying and selling (business/selling) is like interest! But Allah Ta'ala has legalized trading/buying and prohibited usury. Then whoever receives admonition from his Lord and abstains, his is that which was done before. His affairs depend on Allah. And those who take interest again, they will go to hell. They will stay there forever.' (Surah Baqarah: Verse 275)

Usury is a serious crime. Violation of Islamic law. Not avoiding usury is like declaring war on Islam. Allah says:

- 'O you who believe, fear Allah and give up what you owe on interest, if you are believers. Then if you do not forsake, then prepare to fight with Allah and His Messenger. But if you repent, you will receive your capital. Do not oppress anyone and no one will oppress you.' (Surah Baqarah: Verses 278-279)

- 'O believers! You do not eat compound interest. And fear Allah so that you may attain good.' (Surah Al-Imran: Verse 130)

Usury alone is not a serious crime. Rather, those who are involved in it will also face a terrible punishment. They will be cursed. There are also instructions regarding the sin of usury. It is mentioned in the hadith-

-Hazrat Jabir Radiyallahu Anhu narrates, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam cursed usury receivers, donors and writers of usurious transactions and witnesses of usurious transactions.' (Muslim)

- In the famous book of hadith, Ibn Majah, Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said that the sin of usury has seventy levels, the lowest level of which is the act of marrying one's mother (fornication with one's mother). (Nauzubillah)

Interest penalty

- Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, On the night of Meraj I passed a group whose bellies were (large) like houses. Many snakes inside. which was seen from outside the stomach. I said, O Jibril! Who are they? He replied, 'These are the usurers of your Ummah.' (Ibn Majah)

Think about it, taking or giving usury is like fighting with Allah. In that case, is there anyone who will fight with Allah? Of course not.

Sad but true, usury has become an epidemic in the present era. We must be freed from this disease of usury. If we take holy sustenance. But the Almighty Allah will bless our sustenance. So let's protect ourselves from the horrors of usury.

May Allah Ta'ala give Tawfik to the whole mankind to build usury free life. Grant us freedom from the financial scourge of usury. Ameen.
