After setting the date back to a time where the SQL evaluation licence works, then stop the windows time service. Stopping the Windows time service is somewhat easier and less problematic for a virtual machine than disconnecting from the network.

If you follow the link, you end up on a marketing page that doesn't contain any information about converting evaluation software to licensed software (even if I already have licensed bits on hand). In fact, there is not really any information about Evaluation Edition at all, except for an offer to install a second trial instance on my machine. I'm trying to remove one, but thanks anyway.

Sql Server 2014 Evaluation Edition Download

Nope. I run through install, and when I try to launch Management Studio, my evaluation period has still expired. I plead to #sqlhelp on twitter, and I'm told I need to remove all of the existing bits from the Evaluation edition.

I finally got it to work. I had to uninstall my sql server 2008 enterprise edition before I could get the sql server 2008 R2 express edition to uninstall. then I installed sql server 2008 enterprise edition

and restored master and msdb databases.

Alot of work, but my enterprise edition maintenance plans can be modified now.

Aaron it works. I had it on WIN7 X86 my issue wasn't the evaluation period error but the sql server engine wasn't working and corrupted. I would go and buy the DEV 49 buks one :-). wtf i learned it hard way wasted a whole week trying Add Remove Program feature.

Thanks again

since this is the painfull way of doing it i wouldn't suggest doing it.

after i followed ur steps i was stuck with other problems which finally made me to remove every registery associated with sql server but that didn't end pretty well either.

my suggestion is that to use windows "fix it" wich is designed to this taks.

My experience was similar to yours: created a VM, installed the 2008 R2 evaluation edition, then decided to repurpose the VM for use in training. Uninstalled the eval edition (not!) and couldn't install 2008 R2.

Your solution worked perfectly and cleared all the evaluation detritus from the VM. Thank you for this helpful post.

Open cmd, type date, assign a date in the past (within the evaluation period)...keep doing that for a few times till the evaluation SQL Server is started (you might need to do that while "upgrading" to developer too).

Despite this trick, it is correct and not contrary to the Microsoft license terms to convert the evaluation version to the normal one. To do this, you will need to run the command prompt as an administrator and follow the instructions below.

You can upgrade or convert installations of Windows Server to newer versions, different editions, or switch between licensing options, such as evaluation, retail, and volume licensed. This article helps explain what the options are to help with your planning.

You can convert evaluation versions and editions of Windows Server to retail versions and editions. For example, if you've installed the evaluation version of Standard (Desktop Experience) edition, you can convert it to the retail version of either the Standard (Desktop Experience) edition or the Datacenter (Desktop Experience) edition.

However, you can't convert all Windows Server evaluation versions and editions to all retail versions or editions. For example, if you've installed the evaluation Datacenter edition, you can convert it only to the retail Datacenter edition, not to the retail Standard edition.

In Windows Server versions after 2016, if you've installed Desktop Experience evaluation versions, you can't convert them to Core retail versions. If you install the Standard Core evaluation version, you can convert it only to retail Datacenter Core, not to retail Standard Core.

If your server is running an evaluation version of Windows Server Standard or Datacenter edition, you can convert it to an available retail version. Run the following commands in an elevated command prompt or PowerShell session.

You can't convert an Active Directory domain controller from an evaluation to a retail version. In this case, install an additional domain controller on a server that runs a retail version, migrate any FSMO roles held, and remove Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) from the domain controller that runs on the evaluation version. For more information, see Upgrade Domain Controllers to Windows Server.

If the server is running Windows Server Essentials, you can convert it to the full retail version by entering a retail, volume license, or OEM key in the following command at an elevated command prompt:

At any time after installing Windows Server, you can freely convert between a retail license, a volume-licensed license, or an OEM license. The edition (Standard or Datacenter) remains the same during this conversion. If you're starting with an evaluation version, convert it to the retail version first and then convert between the versions by running the following command from an elevated command prompt. Provide your volume-license, retail, or OEM product key.

@Doris2020 Did you select the ISO to download from -us/evalcenter/evaluate-windows-server-2019? As I said in my first reply, we cannot reproduce the issue using the image posted there. It does not prompt for a key. Can you provide any more details about your experience?

I have had the same issue. I've copied the .ISO to a USB using Intelligent provisioning. After reboot the OS gets to the 'Collecting information' phase and then a message pops up that prevents installation. The message reads: 'Windows cannot find the Microsoft Software Licence Terms. Make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation.' I am using the correct download page. The device is an HP Microserver Gen8 with a 240 GB Kinston SSD and 4 GB RAM (default). I've tried re-downloading and copying the .ISO to a bootable DVD. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

1. if you have downloaded evaluation version from Microsoft Volume License Service Center, then you can buy license from any authorize partner under Microsoft Open license program, and you get the key for activation which you can use for this evaluation version to activate.

2. If you downloaded this evaluation version from Microsoft.com, Then the above solution will not work and you can actually buy OEM license from any authorize partner and contact Microsoft activation support to activate the same.

If you download an evaluation version from the Evaluation Center, you can convert it to a production version by purchasing a retail key. From there, you can convert it to a volume license. However, you cannot convert an evaluation version to a volume version directly.

From an end user licensing perspective which one would be okay for us as an organization to use in our dev environment? Also we wanted to test out its sync functionality with our domain controller in dev. Is it okay if developer edition or evaluation edition is used to sync with AD?

Is there a way to upgrade from windows server 2016 standard license ( no EVALUATION) to windows server 2019 using ISO method without the need to activate it in a second moment once the upgrade is over?

cheers, thanks in advance, AllanWhat edition of SQL Server is this? The error messages indicates it was an evaluation version. SSRS still uses databases and the database engine and it could be that is the piece that is the evaluation edition.

I was recently able to acquire a license key for Windows Server 2019 Standard and decided to do some research to see how difficult it would be to upgrade my Eval servers to Standard. Thankfully, the process is pretty painless and I will be walking you through it. In my case, I will be upgrading my primary domain controller.

After upgrading my server, I wanted to try my best to ensure all functionality was retained by domain controller. To do this, I visited my secondary domain controller and ran Test-ComputerSecureChannel. It's worth noting that this command needs to be run on a domain controller other than the one you just upgraded.

Again, the best place to get the RHEL 7 Beta is via the RHEL 7 Beta landing page. If you have a subscription, it should automatic to gain access via the blue button, or you can request a 30-day evaluation on this page if you don't have a subscription and can test drive the bits, but more importantly the benefits of the Customer Portal.

Now that you have bought yourself some time. You will need to convert the evaluation edition of Windows to a production version using a General Volume License Key (GVLK), which are used when setting up KMS clients. Microsoft publishes a list of those keys here. I suggest that you make a backup or snapshot of the server before attempting a conversion.

Hi -

We are aware of this issue.

It looks like this is something that needs to be fixed by our people in the Seattle office.

This thread will be notified when the server is back to functioning as it should.

Thanks,

-wim

Common advice here is to set the clock backwards. My problem with that is that you're probably doingthis on an unsupported unknown black-box flaming garbage can of a system set up by someone who wasn'tmeant to do it - because otherwise they wouldn't be using the evaluation edition. So what are therepercussions of setting the clock backwards? Perhaps their application spawning silently in thebackground and trashing this or other databases with bad date information? Perhaps you'll lose yourRDP connection and then be unable to connect back in because of the SSPI error generated by a clockmismatch?

Cases in which you run an evaluation and then need to convert it to retail are numerous. Yes, this is really useful for environments created for a proof-of-concept (POC) purpose that then decide to go to production. In such cases, it's a great time-saver because you don't have to start from scratch.

If you have installed Windows Server 2019 StandardEvaluation or DatacenterEvaluation, you have essentially only 180 days to test any features of the new server platform version. This might be enough for some but not for others. e24fc04721
