Who are the Shadows?
‘The Shadows’ is just what Stevie called the men who abducted her. It’s not a name they use for themselves. The men and women involved go by many names, but when you remove the covers and aliases, they are CIA.
Let’s rewind…
It started in 2019 when a woman named Diane Beckman retired from the NSA. In her time working with both agencies, the CIA and NSA, she’d met many agents scarred from their secrets, ordered many people to their deaths, and she’d never let it disturb her. They were serving their county, so was she. But there was one project, three agents, that she found she’d come to care about -
Operation Bartowski. The Intersect Project.
Following his retirement, Chuck Bartowski still had the Intersect in his head. While she was still in command, Beckman had been able to protect him, insisting that he was merely inactive and could be called back for duty whenever needed, along with his partners.
So when the day came for her retirement, General Beckman gathered up every file about the Intersect and Chuck Bartowski and destroyed them to protect him.
Her successor, General Foley, had heard tell of the Intersect Project, anticipating the day when he would have the clearance to learn what was apparently the CIA’s greatest secret. But all he found were the redacted files, all else burned or purged from the system. His analysts worked tirelessly, and finally were able to recover a name, the name of the agent who’d been assigned to retrieve the Intersect:
Sarah Walker
Suspecting that Walker had gone rogue with what they believe to be a set of files or a computer system, Foley put together a task force to investigate her and recover the Intersect.
