CALL FOR APPLICATIONS - SCHOOL SÃO PAULO OF ADVANCED SCIENCE ON HIGH DIMENSIONAL MODELLING

 

The São Paulo School of Economics at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV EESP) / CEQEF, the Center for Quantitative Studies in Economics and Finance, opens applications for undergraduate, master's, doctoral, or postdoctoral students to participate in the "São Paulo School of Advanced Science on High Dimensional Modelling," which will take place from April 21 to 30, 2025, in São Paulo, at the Fundação Getulio Vargas building.

 

The offered workshops aim to enhance specific aspects of data professionals' training, such as machine learning applications in economics, finance, and business, as well as training in cryptofinance. Additionally, the opportunity for students to present their work and receive feedback from participants is valuable for academic and professional development.

 

The presence of top speakers, both international and Brazilian specialists in the subject, allows participants to access cutting-edge knowledge and establish important connections for their careers. Bringing together the best researchers in the field, with high academic visibility, associated with other specialists, provides an excellent networking opportunity for students, including internships in Brazil and abroad.  1) Requirements

 

- Selected candidates are expected to participate in one of the minicourses, lectures, and thematic sessions. 

- Undergraduate or postgraduate students currently enrolled in courses must provide proof through their academic transcripts.

- Postdoctoral researchers need to submit a letter from their advisor.

- Participation in this minicourse is open to both Brazilian and international candidates.

- The institution will cover point-to-point travel expenses (economy class), daily allowances covering transportation, meals, accommodation, and travel insurance for the course period.

- Selected candidates must present their work in the poster session.

- An adequate level of English is required to participate in the School and also to present a poster in English and answer questions, as simultaneous translation will not be available in the mini-courses and thematic sessions.

Interested candidates (undergraduate, master and PhD students)  can apply by filling the google forms  here. and include the documents listed below. If you are an early-career doctors (less than 5 year of PhD) or researchers(more than 5 years of PhD) send you CV and poster, attached to an email to espca@fgv.br with the subject "APPLICATION FOR ESPCA-FAPESP" .

 

i. A statement written by the candidate justifying their application, specifying the importance of the course for their academic formation, describing their research project and the institution where it is being conducted, and providing the expected completion date of their undergraduate, master's, or doctoral studies. 

ii. A one-page summary of the research project developed by the student. 

iii. A letter of recommendation from the student's advisor, either from Brazil or abroad. 

iv. Academic transcript; FAPESP curriculum summary or a brief CV (up to 5 pages highlighting relevant scientific activities, including publications in high-impact international journals). 

v. If possible, a screenshot of where the candidate learned about the São Paulo School of Applied Science in High Dimensional Models and the minicourse.

vi. a poster to be presented in the poster sessions.

 

3) Selection Process

 

The selection process will occur in two stages:

 

i.  Elimination Part:  Review of the submitted documentation to assess compliance with this call's criteria and FAPESP's guidelines. 

ii. Classification Part: Candidates residing outside São Paulo and Brazilians will be notified via email (espca@fgv.br) or may request an online interview with the Scientific Committee.

- Announcement of the first phase results: 28/01/2025 (new date)
