Virtual Jane's Walk (2021-22)

Welcome to the Spruce Avenue Virtual Jane's Walk! Jane's Walk is a movement of citizen led walking tours inspired by Jane Jacobs. To learn more about Jane visit: http://janeswalk.org/about/about-jane-jacobs/

This walk was first created virtually in April 2020, in place of the 6th annual Jane's Walk in the Central Edmonton neighbourhood of Spruce Avenue; due to COVID-19, in-person Jane's Walks around the world were cancelled and our virtual walk launched in May 2020. It was redesigned and re-run in May 2021 in replacement of in-person 2021 Jane's Walks. It has been revamped once again to serve as a permanent virtual walk. This complements in person walks, which resumed for Community League Day in Edmonton in September 2021 and Jane's Walk weekend internationally in May 2022.

To participate in a physically-distant walk, please either follow along on this walk at home or join in person and follow the map on your phone.  Either way, start by clicking at the community league hall (103 St & 115 Ave). If you're visiting in person, parking is just to the NW of the Community League Hall sign.  Enjoy your heritage tour! :)

Google Map of the Jane's Walk

Take the virtual tour! You can walk the route in person and follow along with your smart phone, or enjoy on your phone/computer right from home.  The walk route is in Green on the map. The tour features 10 stops along the way (in Yellow) with a short narrative at each stop, plus photos.  You can also check out the houses and buildings (marked in Blue) we've done histories on along the way (these are the places you might notice "in real life" have the green & white Spruce Ave history placard signs).

Or, take the Spruce Ave Jane's Walk tour the low-tech way.

Below you can download three files to print and take with you on the walk.
