PRIVACY POLICY FOR SPOTIVIBE
Last Updated: October 2026
1. INTRODUCTION & CORE PRIVACY COMMITMENT
SpotiVibe ("we", "our", or "the extension") is a lightweight browser customizer designed exclusively for Spotify Web Player. We respect your digital privacy. This Privacy Policy clearly explains how SpotiVibe handles user data, why specific permissions are requested, and why our architecture is built with the principle of zero data collection and minimal necessary permissions.
2. ZERO DATA COLLECTION GUARANTEE
• No Personal Information Collected: SpotiVibe does NOT collect, harvest, track, transmit, or sell your name, email address, IP address, browsing history, search queries, passwords, payment info, or Spotify account credentials.
• No Audio or Listening History Tracked: SpotiVibe does NOT monitor, record, or transmit the music, playlists, podcasts, or artists you listen to.
• No External Servers or Remote Code: SpotiVibe executes 100% locally on your computer. There are no remote tracking beacons, no analytics SDKs (such as Google Analytics or Mixpanel), no advertising pixels, and no external telemetry calls.
• No Third-Party Data Sharing: Because no data is collected, no data is ever shared with or sold to third parties, advertisers, data brokers, or marketing networks.
3. PERMISSIONS BREAKDOWN & WHY THEY ARE STRICTLY NECESSARY
Users often ask: "Why does the extension ask for permissions, and are all of them really necessary?"
The answer is: YES, and only the absolute minimum required permissions are used. SpotiVibe deliberately avoids requesting sensitive permissions (such as `<all_urls>`, `<cookies>`, `webRequest`, `management`, or `history`). Here is the complete and transparent explanation of each requested permission:
A. "storage" Permission
• Purpose: Used solely by Chrome’s built-in Storage API (`chrome.storage.sync` and `chrome.storage.local`) to save your chosen preferences.
• What is stored:
- Your chosen color theme (e.g., "amoled", "purple_dark", or custom hex colors).
- Your selected interface font (e.g., "Inter", "Poppins").
- Your interface scale percentage (e.g., "100%").
- Your toggle switches (e.g., Focus Mode on/off, Block Video Canvas on/off).
• Necessity: Without the "storage" permission, the extension would forget your selected theme and preferences every time you close or refresh Spotify or your browser, forcing you to reconfigure everything on each visit. All stored data remains private to your browser profile.
B. "*://open.spotify.com/*" (Host Permission / Content Script Match)
• Purpose: Grants the extension permission to interact with the Spotify Web Player domain (`open.spotify.com`).
• What it does:
- Injects CSS stylesheets to render selected colors, dark themes, and custom typography.
- Injects a small client script that toggles layout classes (Focus Mode, Bigger Navbar, Locking Sidebar, and collapsing redundant elements).
- Pauses heavy background looping video canvases when "Bandwidth Saver" is enabled.
• Necessity: Without host permission for `open.spotify.com`, a browser extension is technically prohibited by Chrome from modifying the styles or DOM of the Spotify Web Player. SpotiVibe restricts this permission ONLY to Spotify and NEVER requests access to any other website you visit.
4. ARE ALL THESE PERMISSIONS NECESSARY?
Yes, absolutely. SpotiVibe adheres strictly to Google's "Principle of Least Privilege":
• We do NOT request access to "all websites" (`<all_urls>`).
• We do NOT request access to tabs or browsing history (`tabs`, `history`).
• We do NOT request access to cookies or account sessions (`cookies`).
• We do NOT intercept network requests or credentials (`webRequest`).
The only permissions utilized are `storage` (saving your local visual settings) and `open.spotify.com` (applying your visual settings to Spotify).
5. THIRD-PARTY TRADEMARK NOTICE
Spotify is a registered trademark of Spotify AB. SpotiVibe is an independent utility extension and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or associated with Spotify AB in any way.
6. DATA SECURITY & RETENTION
Because your theme settings are kept locally in your Chrome browser profile (and synchronized securely through your personal Google Account sync if enabled in your browser), we do not maintain any external databases. You can instantly erase all stored preferences at any time by clicking "Reset Defaults" in the extension popup or by uninstalling the extension from `chrome://extensions`.
7. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
Any future modifications to this policy will be documented in version release notes and published on our Chrome Web Store listing page.
8. CONTACT & SUPPORT
If you have any questions, feedback, or privacy concerns regarding SpotiVibe, please reach out via our Chrome Web Store support tab or documentation page.
