We know Spotify playlisting is important to you and that you have a ton of questions around the song pitching process, what goes on behind the scenes, and general best practices. And we want to make sure to get you the answers. To that end we recently reached out to our followers on Instagram, asking you what you want to know. We then sent a selection off to some of our playlist editors to get you the answers straight from the source.

All artists have equal opportunities to pitch their music via our playlist pitching tool within Spotify for Artists and we consider all artists for playlisting. Many of our playlists support a wide variety of artists, regardless of whether they are signed or unsigned. In addition, we also have playlists, such as Fresh Finds, specifically aimed at supporting unsigned artists.

Absolutely. Music speaks to us in more ways than numbers. We put listening first. And, we also look at what is happening in culture, artists pushing the boundaries, and always consider a myriad of music characteristics when curating (from bpm and tempo to song structure and key signature). For instance for Juneteenth our regular New Music Friday playlist was made up of entirely Black artists and we feature local artists in our New York City playlists.

We always try and tag when a song is explicit within a playlist. There are also some playlists and audiences where we won't include explicit tracks such as the Coffee Shop Vibes playlist, such as in our Spotify Kids programming, and so forth.

Each of our editors are unique and work differently, but they all constantly seek inspiration from different music publications and cultural moments as well as what artists are highlighting on their own artist pages and playlists.

something like that should definitely not happen. Could it be that you've set the playlist as a collaborative one? Check it by right-clicking on the playlist in the sidebar. I'd also suggest to push the "log out everywhere" button at the bottom of your account overview - it might be that you forgot to sign out somewhere. Or a friend wanted to play a trick on you?

Yeah it started to happend to me too a few weeks ago... I thought my spotify went crazy, but today it happend once again -.- it's irritating... I've changed the password 'coz I thought that someone broke into my account...

It is very frustrating as i like to make genre specific playlists and songs keeps getting added that don't even fit the genre. Spotify, if you are going to do this then at least provide us with an option to turn it off!

This has been happening to me as well but I find that it only happens on mobile, when I'm playing my music from my laptop I can go through whole playlists and listen to exactly what is on that playlist without out any problem so i don't understand why it can't do the same thing for Mobile. Spotify you're not making a very good first impression

I have found a solution. This problem seems to only happen to free tier mobile users. Solution: Add at least a total of 15 songs to that playlist. For an extra measure, turn off autoplay by going to settings -> playback, then make sure On this Device and on other devices is off.

I found a lil trick to it now. if ur trying to memorize a song, put 14 other songs in that playlist. With each song added, it will cut off one of their randoms. Once you have 15 or more they no longer add them.

Yeah this is not the solution because we have been premium members for a long time and it's now happening to us too. Really really annoying. When my playlist is over I want it to stop, just stop. I don't want it to add more songs. I have all the auto play etc stuff off.

There is a 10 second timeout for loading any playlist, as well as any size limits imposed by the service itself. If something has slowed down the network connection between the service and a particular speaker (the Coordinator in the group specifically), that could explain why a playlist that used to load ok suddenly does not.

I worked with Sonos support this past week via online chat, and then was told to call in. The first person I spoke with focused on the wifi channel selections automatically made by my Linksys Velop mesh system, and the second phone support person I spoke with simply forwarded the following email to me, detailing the various limitations for various music services. (Note: the size of Spotify playlists does seem to be limited, there is no mention of Apple Music however. Using Airplay and Spotify Direct Control are suggested as workarounds.)

It is the ten second timeout in the speakers, when calling to Spotify. My own app uses a 30 second timeout to make the call to load the playlist, and that is NOT expiring, it is the speakers themselves that force this limit.

I have many Sonos speakers placed throughout an old three story home with many rooms. I therefore set up a Linksys Velop AX/Wifi 6 Tri-Band mesh network with three nodes and a wired backhaul, in the hopes of having a system more than capable of handling a large, high-demand house. As I investigate this further: for this problem with the 10 second timeout for large playlists in Spotify and Apple Music, should looking at the health & functioning of my home network be a first step? Or is this more likely an issue that exists somewhere in the world between me and these SMAPI endpoints?

So I have been taking a deep look at this issue for the last few weeks, and have made changes to my own Windows app to handle these large playlists. It was frankly trickier than I had expected, but its all working now.

A great way to embed a Spotify playlist is by taking a screenshot of the playlist and then adding it as an image to your email. You can hyperlink the image to the playlist URL so your recipients can access the playlist directly.

I try to get a playlist from the Spotify API that contains more than 100 tracks. Since there is a rate limit of 100, I try to change the offset parameter each request to get the next 100 tracks. I tried the python library spotipy and tekore, but when I change the offset parameter, I still get the first 100 tracks of the playlist. It doesn't seem to work. I followed this post, as well as this. I also tried to add the query to the url, but I still get the first 100 tracks. What am I missing out?

Looking at the JSON returned by the API, I found that the endpoint to get the playlist BASE_URL + 'playlists/' + playlist_id returns info about the playlist and includes the 100 first tracks in the tracks.items array. This endpoint does not support the offset parameter.

To get the remaining tracks, I used the BASE_URL + 'playlists/' + playlist_id + '/tracks?offset=100'. This endpoint supports the limit and offset parameters. It returns the tracks in the items array. All you have to do is loop this API call incrementing offset by 100 until the JSON return an empty items array.

Spotify offers digital copyright restricted recorded audio content, including more than 100 million songs and five million podcasts, from record labels and media companies.[8] As a freemium service, basic features are free with advertisements and limited control, while additional features, such as offline listening and commercial-free listening, are offered via paid subscriptions. Users can search for music based on artist, album, or genre, and can create, edit, and share playlists.

In March 2017, Spotify acquired Sonalytic, an audio detection startup, for an undisclosed amount of money. Spotify stated that Sonalytic would be used to improve the company's personalized playlists, better match songs with compositions, and improve the company's publishing data system.[73] Later that month, Spotify also acquired MightyTV, an app connected to television streaming services, including Netflix and HBO Go, that recommends content to users. Spotify intended to use MightyTV to improve its advertising efforts on the free tier of service.[74] In April 2017, they acquired Mediachain, a blockchain startup that had been developing a decentralized database system for managing attribution, and other metadata for media.[75][76] This was followed in May 2017 with the acquisition of artificial intelligence startup Niland, which uses technology to improve personalisation and recommendation features for users.[77][78] In November 2017, Spotify acquired Soundtrap, an online music studio startup.[79][80]

In January 2015, Sony announced PlayStation Music, a new music service with Spotify as its exclusive partner. PlayStation Music incorporates the Spotify service into Sony's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 gaming consoles, and Sony Xperia mobile devices. The service launched on 30 March 2015.[112] In March 2017, Spotify announced a partnership with the South by Southwest (SXSW) conference for 2017, presenting specific content in special playlists through an SXSW hub in Spotify's apps. The integration also enabled Spotify within the SXSW GO app to help users discover and explore artists performing at the conference. Two more partnerships were announced in March; one with WNYC Studios, and one with Waze. The WNYC Studios partnership brought various podcasts from WNYC to Spotify, including Note To Self, On the Media and Here's the Thing. Spotify also announced that the third season of WNYC Studios' 2 Dope Queens podcast would premiere with a two-week exclusivity period on the service on 21 March 2017.[113] The Waze partnership allows Waze app users to view directions to destinations within the Spotify app and access their Spotify playlists through the Waze app.[114] 006ab0faaa
