Amari began his gymnastics career a bit later than most gymnasts. Amari's interest in gymnasts began after his experience at the Big Top circus. Nine years ago, Amari enrolled in the summer program and shortly thereafter in April 2010, was offered a spot on the boys competitive boys team.
Amari graduated from Charles H. Flowers High School. Amari planned to continue his gymnastics career after high school and on April 24, 2019, signed his National Letter of Intent to become a Hawkeye with the University of Iowa.
