Splandidebiz
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 August 2026
This privacy policy applies to the Splandidebiz mobile application for Android (package name com.metaviz.splandide) and iOS, and to the related website.
Splandidebiz ("the app", "we", "us") is a local business directory, operated in connection with the website www.splandidebiz.com. This policy explains what information the app collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
By using the app, you agree to this policy.
Splandidebiz accesses and collects your device's location (GPS and approximate location).
In short:
• Foreground location — While you are using the app, we access your precise and approximate location to show businesses, events, and offers near you, sort results by distance, and fill in your location when you search.
• Background location — Only if you switch on the optional "Nearby alerts" feature, the app also collects your location in the background, even when the app is closed or not in use, so it can notify you when you are near a participating business or offer. Before this is enabled, the app shows you a disclosure and asks for your explicit consent, and Android separately asks you to allow "Always" location access.
• Location data is used only for the purposes described above. We do not sell your location data and do not use it for advertising.
• Nearby alerts are off by default. You can turn the feature off at any time in the app under Settings → Nearby alerts and revoke location permission at any time in your Android or iOS settings. The rest of the app keeps working without it.
Full details are provided in Section 1.2 below.
Account information. When you create an account or sign in, we collect your name, email address, and password. If you sign up as a business, we also collect the business details you enter — company name, profession or category, phone number, address, business hours, website, and social media links.
Content you post. If you publish a listing, product, property, coupon, event, job offer, article, blog post, forum topic, advertisement, or review, we collect the text, photos, prices, dates, and links you provide. This content is intended to be public.
Messages and enquiries. If you contact a business through the app, send a direct message, request a quote, or submit a contact form, we collect the content of that message and your contact details so it can be delivered to the recipient.
Profile photos and listing images. If you upload a photo, we collect the image file. You may choose an existing photo from your device or take a new one with the camera.
Location (precise and approximate). With your permission, the app accesses and collects your device's location — both precise location (GPS) and approximate (network-based) location — through Android's location permissions and equivalent iOS location services.
How we use foreground location. While you are using the app, we use your location to:
• Show businesses, events, coupons, and offers near you.
• Sort and filter search results by distance from you.
• Pre-fill your location in search and listing forms.
• Centre the map on your position.
How we collect and use background location. If — and only if — you switch on the optional "Nearby alerts" feature, the app also collects your location in the background, even when the app is closed or not in use.
It does this using geofences: the app is woken when you enter the area around a participating business, so it can send you a notification about that business or its current offer.
Before background location is requested, the app displays a disclosure explaining this use and requires you to tap Continue to consent. Android then separately asks you to grant "Allow all the time" location access. If you decline either step, background location is not collected and the feature stays off.
Retention and sharing of location data. Background location is processed to determine whether you have entered a geofenced area and to send the resulting notification. We do not sell your location data, share it with third parties for advertising, or use it to build advertising profiles.
Turning it off. Nearby alerts are off by default. You can turn the feature off at any time under Settings → Nearby alerts, and you can revoke or downgrade location permission at any time in your Android or iOS settings. The rest of the app continues to work normally without location access — you simply lose distance-based results and nearby alerts.
Device and usage information. We collect the app version, device type, operating system, language, and general usage events — such as which listings and profiles are viewed — to understand how the app is used and improve it.
Push notification token. If you allow notifications, we collect a device token so we can send you messages, alerts about your listings, and nearby offers.
If you choose to sign in with Google, Facebook, or Apple, we receive your name and email address from that provider to create or access your account. We do not receive your password.
If you use Apple's "Hide My Email" feature, we receive only the relay address Apple provides.
Subscriptions and paid listings are handled on our website through our payment processor, not inside the app. We do not collect or store your card number, CVV, or bank details in the app.
We use the information described above to:
• Create and maintain your account and keep you signed in.
• Publish the listings and content you choose to post.
• Show you businesses, events, and offers relevant to your location.
• Send you nearby alerts using background location, if you have switched the feature on and consented to it.
• Deliver messages, enquiries, and quote requests between users and businesses.
• Send notifications you have asked for, including nearby alerts.
• Process and manage subscriptions, upgrades, and listing claims.
• Verify that you own a business listing you are claiming.
• Prevent fraud, abuse, and misuse of the service.
• Analyse usage so we can fix problems and improve the app.
• Comply with our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information.
The app is a public directory. The following information may be visible to other users and visitors of our website:
• Your business listing and its details, including name, category, address, hours, and contact details.
• Any listing, product, event, coupon, job offer, article, post, or advertisement you publish.
• Reviews you write, once approved.
• Your public profile name and photo.
Please do not put information in these fields that you do not want to be public.
Your email address, password, and private messages are not shown publicly.
We share information only as follows:
With other users — where you have chosen to publish content or send a message, as described in Section 3.
With service providers who operate parts of the service on our behalf:
Google Firebase (Cloud Messaging, Analytics)
Purpose: Push notifications and usage analytics.
Google, Facebook, and Apple
Purpose: Sign-in, only if you choose social sign-in.
OpenStreetMap / Nominatim
Purpose: Map tiles, address search, and geocoding.
Our hosting and email providers
Purpose: Running the service and sending emails such as verification codes.
These providers may process your information only to provide their services to us.
For legal reasons — where we are required to do so by law, or to protect our rights, safety, or property, or those of our users.
In a business transfer — if the service is sold or merged, this policy will continue to apply to the transferred information.
Permissions. You can grant or revoke access to your location, camera, photos, and notifications at any time in your device settings. The app remains usable without them, although you may lose related features such as results near you.
Notifications. You can turn off all notifications in your device settings or adjust which types you receive in the app's notification preferences.
Access and correction. You can view and edit your profile and listings in the app at any time.
Deleting your account. You can request deletion of your account from the app under Settings → Delete account, or by contacting us using the details in Section 10.
Deleting your account removes your profile and personal information. Content that is already public may persist in copies or caches for a period afterwards.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights, including the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent.
Residents of Canada may have rights under PIPEDA and applicable provincial privacy laws, including Quebec's Law 25. Residents of the EU and UK may have rights under the GDPR. Residents of California may have rights under the CCPA.
To exercise these rights, contact us using the details in Section 10. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active.
After you delete your account, we remove your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must keep certain records to comply with legal, tax, or accounting obligations, or to resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.
We protect your information using industry-standard measures. Sign-in tokens are stored in your device's secure storage — Keychain on iOS and Keystore on Android — and all communication between the app and our servers uses encrypted HTTPS connections.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and keep it confidential.
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in countries other than the one you live in, including Canada and the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
Where required, we put appropriate safeguards in place for such transfers.
