Description
Lost Cause is the debut single by Spirits Of Salt, released on the 8th August 2025
The song was written by guitarist Marlon Broadbent. The band had 9 other songs in the works for their debut album, No Safe Place, but when Marlon and bassist/band manager Siddhant Bhale looked at the business side of releasing the album, they felt it would be best if they already had a single out to get a small fanbase together so they could immediately tour when the album was released. Marlon offered Lost Cause, feeling it was the strongest of the 11 demos he'd done that were not being used for the album, as the band didn't want to sacrifice the quality of a song from No Safe Place. As the band were already about to commence the recording of the album, they didn't re-record the song in a studio, rather O.utthere added her vocals and the music was that used on the demo by Marlon. Not being able to use any drums or basses (as he didn't have any), Marlon programmed them in, using mixing and mastering tools to try and make them sound more realistic. Some covers were considered for b-sides, but it was decided that the single was to be released without one. However, O.utthere provided an alternate version of the vocal melody, so that was used as the b-side instead.
