Effective date: 1 September 2026
This policy explains what information SpendLens ("the app", "we", "us") handles and why. SpendLens is published by Varsha Patel.
1. The short version
• There is no SpendLens account. You don't sign up or log in.
• Your expenses, receipts, receipt photos, budgets, plans and goals are stored on your device. We don't run a server that receives them.
• Receipt text is recognised on your device using Apple's frameworks.
• The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Google may collect device information to show and measure ads, as described below.
• We use Google Firebase for anonymous usage statistics, crash reports and app configuration. You can turn off usage statistics and crash reports in Settings.
2. Information stored on your device
SpendLens stores what you enter or scan: expense amounts, merchants, dates, categories, notes, receipt photos, budgets, targets, planned expenses, savings goals and app preferences. This information stays on your device. It is not sent to us or to any third party by the app.
If you delete the app, this data is deleted from your device. If you use Backup & Export, the app creates a file and you choose where to save or share it (for example, Files or iCloud Drive). We never receive that file.
3. Permissions
• Camera: used only to scan receipts. Images are processed on your device.
• Photos: when you import a receipt, you choose the photo using the system photo picker. The app only receives the photo you select.
• Face ID / passcode: if you turn on app lock, iOS handles authentication. SpendLens never receives your biometric data.
• Notifications: used for reminders you turn on (budget alerts, recurring expenses, warranty and return dates, weekly review). They are scheduled on your device.
• App Tracking Transparency: in the free version, iOS may ask whether SpendLens can use your device's advertising identifier for more relevant ads. You can say no, and you can change this later in iOS Settings.
4. Third-party services
Google Firebase (Google LLC)
• Firebase Analytics: records app usage events, such as an expense being saved or the upgrade screen being shown. These events never include amounts, merchants, notes or receipt text.
• Firebase Crashlytics: collects crash reports (device model, iOS version, app version and crash details) so we can fix bugs.
• Firebase Remote Config: lets us adjust app settings, such as free-plan limits, without an app update.
You can turn off Analytics and Crashlytics under Settings → Share diagnostics.
Google AdMob (Google LLC), free version only
AdMob shows ads and may collect device identifiers (including the advertising identifier, if you allow tracking), IP address, and ad interaction data to show, measure and limit ads. Where required by law (for example, in the EEA, UK and some US states), SpendLens asks for your consent before personalised ads are shown. You can change your choice in Settings. SpendLens Pro subscribers don't see ads.
Apple Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We don't receive your payment details. The app only checks with Apple whether your subscription is active.
