P. l. lotor: Canadian Maritime provinces and parts of Quebec and Ontario, south through eastern US (From Lake Michigan to North Carolina)
P. l. auspicatus: Key Vaca and nearby islands in the Florida Keys
P. l. elucus: Most of Peninsular Florida
P. l. excelsus: Around the Snake River, Humboldt River, and other river valleys in the northwest US
P. l. fuscipes: Most of Texas, southern Arkansas, Louisiana, and into northeastern Mexico (Coahuila and Nuevo León, to southern Tamaulipas)
P. l. grinnelli: Southern Baja California
P. l. hernandezii: Western, central, to southern Mexico, into Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua
P. l. hirtus: Upper Mississippi and Missouri rivers drainage areas from the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains east to Lake Michigan, as well as southern Manitoba in Canada
P. l. incautus: Big Pine Key and other nearby islands in the Florida Keys
P. l. inesperatus: Key Largo and other nearby islands in the Florida Keys
P. l. insularis: Islas Marías, off western Mexico
P. l. litoreus: Coastal areas and islands off Georgia in the southeast US
P. l. marinus: Ten Thousand Islands off southern Florida, as well as in Cape Sable and through the Everglades into Lake Okeechobee

P. l. megalodous: Southern Louisiana from St. Bernard Parish west to Cameron Parish
P. l. minor: Guadeloupe in the Lesser Antilles
P. l. pacificus: Pacific Northwest from the southwestern British Columbia, as well as western Washington, western Oregon, and northwestern California
P. l. pallidus: Colorado and Gila rivers valleys, as well as adjoining territory from northeastern Utah and east to western Colorado and northwestern New Mexico
