Range: Open areas of South America; Eastern and southern Brazil, Boliva, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina

Subspecies

• R. a. americana: Eastern Brazil

• R. a. albescens: Eastern Argentina, south into the Río Negro Province

• R. a. araneipes: Bolivia and Paraguay, as well as Mato Grosso in western Brazil

• R. a. intermedia: Uruguay and Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil

• R. a. nobilis: Paraguay, east of the Paraguay River
