Range: Central to South America, as well as the islands of Triniad and Tobago

Subspecies

• P. p. perspicillata: eastern and southern Colombia, Venezuela, the Guianas, eastern Ecuador, Peru, and through much of Brazil.

• P. p. boliviana: Bolivia.

• P. p. chapmani: Eastern Costa Rica, Panama, northern and western Colombia, and western Ecuador.

• P. p. pulsatrix: Southeastern Brazil, as well as parts of northern Argentina

• P. p. saturata: Southern Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and western Costa Rica

• P. p. trinitatis: Triniad and Tobago
