The Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) is a non-profit consortium that establishes and maintains standardized benchmarks and performance evaluation tools for new generations of computing systems. SPEC was founded in 1988 and its membership comprises over 120 computer hardware and software vendors, educational institutions, research organizations, and government agencies internationally.

The SPEC CPU 2017 benchmark package contains SPEC's next-generation, industry-standardized, CPU intensive suites for measuring and comparing compute intensive performance, stressing a system's processor, memory subsystem and compiler.

The SPEC CPU 2017 Benchmark price is $1000 for new customers, $250 for qualified non profit organizations and $50 accredited academic institutions. To find out if your organization has an existing license for a SPEC product please contact SPEC at info@spec.org.

SPEC designed these suites to provide a comparative measure of compute-intensive performance across the widest practical range of hardware using workloads developed from real user applications. The benchmarks are provided as source code and require the use of compiler commands as well as other commands via a shell or command prompt window. SPEC CPU 2017 also includes an optional metric for measuring energy consumption.

The SPECapc for Solidworks 2022 benchmark, released on August 18, 2022, is performance evaluation software for vendors and users of computing systems running Solidworks 2022 CAD/CAM software on Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit platforms.

The SPECapc for Solidworks 2022 benchmark includes 10 models and 50 tests exercising a full range of graphics and CPU functionality. Model sizes range from 392 MB to 2.3 GB in memory. The following models are included in the benchmark:

SFF PCs traditionally do not lend themselves to workstation duties. However, a recent trend towards miniaturized workstations has been observed. While the Raptor Canyon NUC is primarily marketed towards gamers, its capabilities encouraged us to benchmark the system for both content creation workloads as well as professional applications. Towards this, we processed two SPEC benchmarks geared towards workstations - SPECworkstation 3.10 and SPECviewperf 2020 v3.

The SPECworkstation 3.1 benchmark measures workstation performance based on a number of professional applications. It includes more than 140 tests based on 30 different workloads that exercise the CPU, graphics, I/O and memory hierarchy. These workloads fall into different categories.

Individual scores are generated for each test and a composite score for each category is calculated based on a reference machine (HP Z240 tower workstation using an Intel E3-1240 v5 CPU, an AMD Radeon Pro WX3100 GPU, 16GB of DDR4-2133, and a SanDisk 512GB SSD). Official benchmark results generated automatically by the benchmark itself are linked in the table below for the systems being compared.

The Financial Services workload set benchmarks the system for three popular algorithms used in the financial services industry - the Monte Carlo probability simulation for risk assessment and forecast modeling, the Black-Scholes pricing model, and the Binomial Options pricing model.

The SPECviewperf 2020 v3 benchmark from SPEC provides an idea of the capabilities of the GPU in a workstation from the perspective of different CAD, content creation, and visual data analysis tools. It makes more sense to process these benchmarks on workstations with professional GPUs, but, consumer GPUs are often the choice for machines that need to handle both gaming and professional workloads.

We processed SPECviewperf 2020 v3 at both resolutions on the Intel NUC13RNGi9 (Raptor Canyon). The benchmark measures the frame rate at which the GPU renders the scenes in a viewset. Each viewset is composed of different scenes and rendering modes, and the composite score for the viewset is a weighted geometric mean of the FPS measured for the different scenes. Official benchmark results generated automatically by the benchmark itself are linked in the table below for the systems being compared.

I've been trying to instrument SPEC CPU2006 benchmarks using Intel's Pin on Ubuntu. I have a Pintool with a simple cache simulator that counts reads and writes. When running the Pintool on a 'runspec -nonreportable' command for a specific benchmark I get the data I want. However, the results of different benchmarks hardly differ at all. My pintool doesn't seem to be the problem as it looks to be working correctly on other applications. I suspect the results are due to the Pintool is instrumenting everything including the setup of the benchmark.

What I've previously done it just running the pintool on the runspec command. I've also tried to use '--action build' and '--action setup' prior to using runspec to reduce the overhead, but it seems like runs much of the same setup anyway. I know there are monitoring hooks in SPEC CPU 2006 where I can run additional commands right before starting a benchmark, and I'm thinking there might be someway in which I can use those but I'm know sure how. Maybe the 'monitor_wrapper' hook is most appropriate? Maybe I can get a hold of the pid somehow and attach my pintool to the correct process just as the benchmark is starting? Super thankful for any help I can get!

You're probably just instrumenting runspec itself, which runs in a process that creates another process in which the benchmark is run. You have two options: either tell Pin to follow child processes (using the -follow_execv option) or directly inject Pin into the process of the benchmark when it gets created (by running the benchmark using specinvoke instead of runspec).

The SPEC benchmark suite consists of ten public-domain, non-trivial programs that are widely used to measure the performance of computer systems, particularly those in the Unix workstation market. These benchmarks were expressly chosen to represent real-world applications and were intended to be large enough to stress the computational and memory system resources of current-generation machines. The extent to which the SPECmark (the figure of merit obtained from running the SPEC benchmarks under certain specified conditions) accurately represents performance with live real workloads is not well established; in particular, there is some question whether the memory referencing behavior (cache performance) is appropriate. In this paper, we present measurements of miss ratios for the entire set of SPEC benchmarks for a variety of CPU cache configurations; this study extends earlier work that measured only the performance of the integer (C) SPEC benchmarks. We find that instruction cache miss ratios are generally very low, and that data cache miss ratios for the integer benchmarks are also quite low. Data cache miss ratios for the floating point benchmarks are more in line with published measurements for real workloads. We believe that the discrepancy between the SPEC benchmark miss ratios and those observed elsewhere is partially due to the fact that the SPEC benchmarks are all almost exclusively user state CPU benchmarks run until completion as the single active user process. We therefore believe that SPECmark performance levels may not reflect system performance when there is multiprogramming, time sharing and/or significant operating systems activity.

Effective immediately, the new Academic license price for the SPEC CPU 2017 benchmark suite is $50. Institutions that purchase a single license for the benchmark suite may provide access to everyone within the institution who needs it, including professors, students and staff. Pricing for non-profits remains $250. Pricing for commercial enterprises remains $1,000.

Starting February 28, 2023, all SPEC CPU 2017 benchmark suite submissions to the SPEC website must use Version 1.1.9. Since none of the updates in Version 1.1.9 affects benchmark performance, any reportable runs gathered using this new version will be comparable to any other SPEC CPU 2017 results currently published on spec.org.
