The Kent State Center for Architecture and Environmental Design. It’s a 117,000 square foot building designed by WEISS/ MANFREDI, chosen through an international competition. The building aims to connect the Kent State campus with the revitalized city of Kent. It has a continuous gallery and a new esplanade. Inside, there’s a café, gallery, 200-seat lecture hall, classrooms, and a library. The top floor boasts a 650-seat space called the “Design Loft” and an 8,400 square foot green roof for managing stormwater. The building uses regional materials, including an iron-spot brick façade made locally. It’s designed for natural light, with a large glazed curtain wall on the north side and a cantilevering staircase with campus views on the south.
