Week 4: Thundercat - The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam
This is a great little EP. There are a lot of very interesting decisions here. Most of the tracks are quite dark and chaotic. So many elements are interacting at once. The interplay between the layers of electric bass are captivating and the vocals are the same. His use of harmony is fantastic. Every chord movement is so satisfying and the melodies float over the layers in a way that I can only describe as angelic.
All that being said, we still have an undeniable banger in the tracklist. Them Changes is one of his most popular songs and I love it. I’ve actually had the opportunity to play it multiple times and it’s so fun. The groove is so infectious. I also recommend watching the performance that he did with Ariana Grande for Adult Swim. They play off of each other in such a fun way.
Good EP, well paced, interesting songs. Not a lot else to say I like it.
