Dr Sophie Sowden-Carvalho is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Birmingham. Her lab examines the production and perception of social behaviour across the life span, with a focus on social cognition in autistic and non-autistic adults. The lab's most recent research concerns the impact of neurotype-matching on interpersonal relationships and social decision-making.
As the lead investigator of the U21 Autism Research Network, Dr Sowden-Carvalho is committed to making autism research more diverse and inclusive of the autism community and understanding cross-cultural differences in autism-related language preferences, stigma and mental wellbeing. See below to learn more about U21 activities.
The Sowden Lab is part of a larger team of autism researchers at the University of Birmingham called the Birmingham Psychology Autism Research Team (B-PART). We also have an associated consultancy committee.
