If you want durable, bone-conduction headphones with built-in music storage for deep-water swimming and active play, choose Soveign Waterproof Headphones; if you need affordable, wired earbuds with a secure fit for surface-level water sports and clear audio isolation, choose Chiyyak Clear Sound Waterproof.
• Soveign: The standout strength is its IPX8 rating combined with 32GB of internal memory, allowing it to function as a standalone MP3 player underwater without needing a phone connection; the trade-off is that Bluetooth signals cannot penetrate water, limiting wireless use to dry land or shallow splashes.
• Chiyyak: This model shines with its IP68 seal and superior noise isolation technology designed to deliver crisp mid-frequencies through wired connections; however, it requires a physical cable and lacks any internal storage, meaning you must always carry a device with a 3.5mm jack.
• Who picks Soveign: Ideal for kids who need a truly independent audio experience while diving or doing laps without tangled wires.
• Who picks Chiyyak: Perfect for swimmers who prefer a traditional in-ear seal and want reliable sound quality from a connected player without paying for extra memory features.
The Soveign X7 is engineered for a very specific type of user: someone who wants to leave their phone behind but still wants access to thousands of songs. Its defining feature is the 32GB of built-in memory, which can store over 6,000 tracks. This transforms the headphones into a self-contained media player. When your child goes for a swim, they do not need to lug around a waterproof phone case or worry about Bluetooth connectivity failing beneath the surface. They simply switch to MP3 mode, hit play, and dive in. The IPX8 rating confirms this device is built to handle being submerged deeply, unlike many standard "water-resistant" gadgets that only survive a splash.
For parents looking for over ear headphones for children that can withstand the rigors of a pool or ocean, the design philosophy here is all about freedom. The open-ear bone conduction style keeps the ears exposed to ambient sounds, which is a significant safety benefit in open water environments. You are not isolating the child completely from their surroundings, yet they get to enjoy their music. The build quality emphasizes durability with a flexible band capable of 360-degree bending. This means if a kid twists it or drops it, the structure is unlikely to snap. The single-button control scheme is another win for younger users; there is no complex touchscreen to fumble with, just a physical button to manage volume and calls.
However, this product is not for everyone. If you expect the headphones to stream wirelessly from a phone while your child is fully submerged, you will be disappointed. Additionally, because it uses an open-ear design, it does not block out wind or background noise on land as effectively as sealed earbuds might. It is best suited for active families who prioritize the ability to swim with music and value the rugged, bendable construction over high-fidelity isolation.

In contrast, the Chiyyak Clear Sound Waterproof headphones take a more traditional approach to aquatic audio. These are in-ear devices designed with a focus on sound clarity and a tight seal. The IP68 rating ensures they are fully protected against dust and immersion, making them suitable for surfing, running in the rain, or casual swimming. What sets this model apart is its emphasis on "Clear Sound Confidence." The manufacturer has implemented advanced noise isolation technology specifically to enhance mid-frequencies. For a child listening to audiobooks or podcasts during a swim, this means the dialogue remains distinct even when surrounded by the sound of water.
This product is an excellent choice for those who prefer a classic bluetooth headset for children setup but need a wired backup that works reliably. Since it relies on a 3.5mm jack, it connects directly to smartphones, tablets, MP3 players, and MP4s. This eliminates the battery anxiety associated with wireless devices; as long as the source device has power, the music plays. The package includes four different sizes of replacement earplugs, allowing for a custom fit. This is crucial for growing children whose ear shapes change, ensuring the seal stays tight enough to keep water out while maintaining comfort. The ergonomic design promises that the unit will stay in place during vigorous activity like cycling or running, preventing the annoyance of constant readjustment.
That said, the requirement for a physical cable is a limitation some buyers may find cumbersome. The 80cm cord length provides decent range, but it introduces a potential snag point compared to the wireless nature of modern tech. Furthermore, without internal storage, the user is tethered to their music source. If the phone dies or gets left behind, the headphones become useless. This makes the Chiyyak less ideal for the child who wants total independence but perfect for the parent who wants a simple, plug-and-play solution that guarantees good sound quality without worrying about Bluetooth protocols or charging cycles.
• Best for deep-water independence → Soveign Waterproof Headphones. With 32GB of internal storage, your child can swim freely without carrying a phone or worrying about a cable getting in the way.
• Best for audio clarity and isolation → Chiyyak Clear Sound Waterproof. The noise isolation technology ensures crystal clear sound, particularly for voice-heavy content like podcasts or stories.
• Best for rugged, tangle-free wear → Soveign Waterproof Headphones. The flexible, bendable band and open-ear design make it nearly impossible to break and comfortable for long durations.
• Best for customizable fit → Chiyyak Clear Sound Waterproof. The inclusion of multiple ear tip sizes allows for a personalized seal that blocks water effectively for different ear shapes.
• Best for surface sports (surfing, running) → Chiyyak Clear Sound Waterproof. The wired connection offers consistent performance without signal interference issues common with Bluetooth underwater.
• Best for simplicity of operation → Soveign Waterproof Headphones. A single physical button handles volume and calls, removing the complexity of touch controls or pairing menus.
• Best for battery-free reliability → Chiyyak Clear Sound Waterproof. No charging is required for the headphones themselves; they draw power directly from your connected device.
• Best for open-safety awareness → Soveign Waterproof Headphones. The open-ear design lets swimmers hear boats, other people, or waves approaching, adding a layer of situational awareness.
I would recommend the Soveign Waterproof Headphones for most families shopping for best ipx7 waterproof gaming headset for children or active aquatic gear. The ability to store 6,000 songs internally changes the game; it removes the friction of managing cables and phones during play. While the Chiyyak offers great sound isolation, the Soveign's combination of IPX8 depth protection, flexible durability, and true wireless capability (on land) makes it the more versatile tool for a child's active lifestyle. It is the one I would buy to ensure my child can enjoy music without limits, whether they are diving deep or just playing in the splash zone.
Yes, both models carry high waterproof ratings (IPX8 and IP68 respectively), but the Soveign is safer for deep submersion due to its open-ear design which maintains situational awareness, whereas the Chiyyak seals the ear canal completely.
No, the Soveign comes with 32GB of built-in memory, so you can load your own music onto the headphones directly and use them without any external device.
No, the Soveign data sheet explicitly states that Bluetooth is limited in water; you must use the MP3 mode for swimming. The Chiyyak uses a wired 3.5mm connection, which works underwater but requires the phone to be present.
The Chiyyak Clear Sound Waterproof is likely better for this specific use case because its noise isolation technology is designed to isolate mid-frequencies, providing clearer speech than the open-ear bone conduction design of the Soveign.
