We are a small, local group of women who believe that together, we can make a difference. South Sound Womenade gathers four times each year to eat, drink, chat with friends and donate money. We then give it away to those in need. Simple.
We knew we could do more. It was that simple. In the spring of 2009, we heard of the Washington DC Womenade group. A small group of women realized that alone, they couldn't help those that needed it, but together, they were powerful! They began pooling their money and then donating it to neighbors and others in need. Inspiration! Their amazing idea spread...
In May of 2009, we gathered a small group for dinner in Tumwater. We ate a "bring what you can" dinner, shared our vision and threw some money in a bowl. Together we raised $300 and knew we were on to something special. We quickly helped two women pay an electric bill to keep their small business open and donated to the local Other Bank. They were small donations, yet, important ones. We continue to gather for dinner, sometimes in a home, sometimes at a restaurant, several times a year. We have met new friends, shared a meal and a glass of wine, and now toss what we can into our yellow pitcher. When a group member hears of a family, a neighbor, or a friend in need, they contact our "core group" with the details. The "core group" makes a decision and the need is met. We do not give cash, rather, we go directly and pay the bill (electrical, phone, rent...), buy supplies, or send a gift card (groceries, clothes, household needs...). We then send an email or post on Facebook and share the giving.
The time commitment is small. Come have dinner and meet new people! Donate when you can. Be inspired!
