From Design to Reality
Reviewing the precedent images and ideas, and combining them with our ideas of what an outdoor classroom at South Range should be, we developed the following design...
The centralized classroom will be a circular space with tree stumps as seats. These stumps can be moved around the classroom to offer teachers individual, small group and large group instruction opportunities. To the south of the classroom are flower gardens which will attract butterflies and bugs for the students to study and enjoy. To the east of the classroom will be raised planting beds where students will learn to grow herbs and vegetables that can be used for student lunches. On the northwest side of the classroom we will have a small arboretum where student can learn about trees and pick apples in the fall.
Overall we believe this design will evolve over time and provide South Range with a dynamic space that supplements our student’s learning and connects them closer with our outdoor environment.
