Time does not treat us all equally. Every year, your pet’s body ages 5 to 7 years. Therefore, a 7 year old Labrador Retriever is really about 50 years old.
We advocate for awareness and prevention in our senior patients. Early identification of disease helps with successful treatment and management. There are some relatively noninvasive ways to monitor for compromised organ health, cancers or hormonal diseases. Depending upon what is found on your pet’s physical examination, we may rely upon blood and urine testing, x-rays, ultrasound, blood and eye pressure measurements or needle aspirate cytology to detect problems before they pose a serious threat. We also like to discuss the daily wellness care for your senior pet. Simple things like proper diet, certain supplements and exercise help keep your pet happy and engaged throughout the senior years.
