Projects

Ph.D. Research Project: Studying the role of two-dimensional coatings on the friction and wear of silica glass surfaces with multi-scale experiments and atomistic simulations.

B.Tech Project: Synthesis of core-shell structured magnetic nano-hybrids for magnetically targeted drug delivery and drug release applications. It comprises of the magnetic cores coated with drug-intercalated Mg-Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) shell, assembled via one step co-precipitation self-assembly method. The magnetic cores used are Magnesium ferrite spinels having varying Fe(2+):Fe(3+) ratios, synthesized in nano-range monosphere morphology. The characterizations include X-ray Diffraction, TEM, FESEM, FT-IR Spectroscopy, Vibrating Sample Magnetometery (VSM), DLS, EDS and UV-Vis Spectroscopy techniques.

Internship Project: Molecular Dynamics simulations of novel NaxV4O10 layered cathode materials for Sodium-ion batteries. Various layered structures, varying by the amount of Na-intercalation (x=0.33, 0.66, 1.00, 1.33), were modelled with Materials Studio 8.0 and MD simulations were carried out with appropriate force-field and module in order to approximate the Mean Square Displacement (MSD) of Na+ ions. The diffusion coefficients of Na+ ions were evaluated from MSD curve as per Einstein’s equation and were correlated with amount of intercalation.

Research Project: Synthesis of Mg-Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanoparticles for the controlled drug delivery of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) anti-cancer drug. The LDH nanoparticles were created with different molar ratios of Mg:Al and the drug was intercalated into those samples by co-precipitation method. The drug-intercalated LDH nanopowder was characterized by X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy, Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) and FESEM techniques. The drug release study was performed in PBS buffer medium (pH 7.4) where the drug concentration with time was detected using UV-Vis Spectroscopy.
