Daft Punk Helmet Commissions
Right guys, I'm going to try and get as much info as possible on this document, please read it carefully before making any contact with me. The purpose of this document is to save me time answering everybody individually. Responding to emails is a very time consuming process, and we all know, time is money.
Thomas - Discovery Era
There has been a lot of interest in my Daft Punk helmets over the recent months, and I expect there to be a lot more to come. Hopefully you should have everything you need to know by the time you've finished reading. If I have missed something out, feel free to let me know, but I would ask you kindly to not waste my time if you cannot afford my prices and are not serious about placing an order.
**As of 2015 I will be limiting the number of Daft Punk helmets I make
It will be (as always) FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED, DEPOSIT SECURES**
This is what everybody wants to know. My Daft Punk helmets will start at £1000 GBP, which works out at about$1600 USD. I only work in GBP, so the exchange rates will vary.
I say prices ‘start at’ that price, depending on which version and what sort of set up you require, lighting etc. will undoubtedly cost more. I cannot give exact prices right now, but there is some more info later in this document.
As some of you may know, I have several sculpts, and can technically offer any version of Daft Punks helmets from throughout their history.
I have 2x Guy-Manuel molds, the older version is the Discovery / HAA / Electroma, regarded by many as the most accurate version available today. The latest version is the updated Tron / Première/ RAM version, again very highly regarded.
I also have a Thomas mold. The only thing that has changed over the years is the ear pucks. I will be doing several versions so I can recreate any era. The ‘transition’ period had a smiley mouth (which I loved), but this is very easily done to the cast.

Thomas - Discovery Era
We have just about completed a 14x35 Bi-colour matrix for the Guy-Manuel helmet. This thing is amazing and as far as I know we are the only people who have made one and will be able to offer others in the future.
In the mean time, I am still able to offer helmets with Full LED Lighting. I will be using boards that have been designed by another engineer. These are not 100% accurate, but are pretty damn close. I have build custom housings so they fit in my helmets. Prices for Helmets with LED start at £2500 GBP and go up to £4500 GBP. We will need to discuss what version of helmet you want along with what lighting setup you required before an exact price can be given.
Gloves / Gauntlets / Backpack
Thomas Glove - R.A.M Era
Chromed gloves will also be available to complete the outfit. These will cost £250 GBP for basic black fabric gloves. I can do RAM era gloves with custom printed fabric, these will cost £350 GBP. Best to order them with the helmet as the chroming colour may not be an exact match if done separately.
I would consider making the Homework/ Discovery era backpacks and gauntlets, if there was enough demand. Prices would need to be confirmed.
There will be a 12 to 24 week turn around period for each helmet depending on what version you order. This time will start from when you have paid your deposit. I should be able to get them finished sooner, and if I can, I will. Delays are always possible, with suppliers of materials, or chroming, so by giving myself 12+ weeks I should have plenty of time and hopefully not disappoint anybody. Naturally, things can and do sometimes go wrong, there are various stages and processes involved in making a helmet, so nothing is ever certain.
If you wanted your helmet sooner,in time for a specific date, a convention or something like that then we could discuss it. It will cost you more depending on how tight the deadline is.
Shipping cost for both a packing crate and carrage will be additional; a quote will have to be sought for each commission. They will be sent with a reputable courier, full value insurance will be available. They will be sent as a ‘Commercial Sample’ and the full value will be stated on the customs labels. It will be up to you to research any potential import taxes or charges.
Each helmet will be placed in a fabric bag (to prevent minor scraps) this will then be bubble wrapped and placed in a cuastom shipping crate and surrounded with either foam or air pockets. These can be requested at additional cost, I can also provide custom Flight Case type boxes.
Naturally these will have a higher price tag attached to them and may also cost more with shipping due to the weight, but I highly recommend spending the extra money to protect your helmets. I will not be held responsible for any loss or damage that happens to uninsured items.
Q: Will the helemt fit me, I have a ** sized head. A: My helemts are considered to be on the larger size, fitting a 24" head without a problem, but I have had customer who are between 5' 7" and 6' tall who have worn my helmets and they looked great. Positionining the helmet incorrectly on your head can makle any helmet look terrible. I include a selection of different sized foam pads so that you can adjust the helmets position.
Q: I want a helmet,what do I do?
A: Great news. You will need to make contact with me,email firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject Daft Punk Helmet Order. I will need to know which version(s)you require. I will also need to know your
· Full Name - Full shipping address - Contact telephone number - PayPal email address.
To secure the commission you will need to pay 50% upfront. (This is non-negotiable!) The remaining 50% and shipping cost will be paid with a series of instalments over the build period. This helps me keep a cash flow during the build and allows me to pay for materials and processes as they occur.
Q: How long does it take to make my Helmet?
A: As stated previously, minimum 12 weeks from the time you place your order and pay your deposit. Helmets with lighting displays will take longer. Once it is shipped it should take no longer than 10 days to reach you, usually 3-5. All shipment will have full tracking
Q: Will you be selling helmets in the future?
A: Yes, I will be doing a limited number of finished helmets in the future. I will not be listing completed helmets for sale anywhere. My helmets will be by commission only.
Q: How do I pay?
A: PayPal is my preferred method of payment. I will also accept international bank transfers, or if you are in the UK, a BACS transaction.
Q: Do you send out invoices?
A: Yes, please ask for one if you require it.
Q: Do you accept trades for your props?
A: I do not normally accept trades unless they are things that really strike my fancy. (Rare)
Q: Do you offer discounts on multiple items?
A: Yes and No... I don't discount my work, the same amount of time and cost goes into each piece but I will combine shipping and save you some money there.
Q: This other prop guy is selling Daft Punk helmets for £xxx.
A: I try my very best to avoid comparing my prices to any other artist out there. My prices are based on the amount of work I have already put in and will need to put in to complete each piece. I also have my costs to consider, resin, paint, shipping, chroming these all cost money, not to mention the £1000’s I’ve spent over the years creating these pieces.
I have spent a long time working on these helmets; I personally think they are the most accurate versions available. There are many other prop makers out there, who do great work. If you would prefer their work, their price, or want to buy their helmet you are more than welcome to do so.
I hope this has answered most of your questions, and will hopefully save me a lot of time. If you do have any questions, or there is something that I have not covered here, (I'm sure to have forgotten something) please feel free to contact me.
Many thanks for your interest and continued support. Without people like you I would not be able to continue doing what I love.
