I just realized that a lot of the inspiration for my Senior Portfolio came from a book I read last summer called Memory Wall by Anthony Doerr and from The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. Memory Wall is a collection of short stories that all revolve around memory and loss of memory. I loved the book so much and I guess I subconsciously decided to mirror what Doerr did in writing in film. The Joy Luck Club is also told in short stories, but they are a lot more personal to me and some of the topics I wanted to discuss in my Portfolio reflect those in Tan's book. Both of these works influenced my choice of structure and narrative, and I'm very glad they did!
I scheduled Jack and Derrick to film today from 9-11 AM because of Non Sibi Day, but when 9 rolled around, Derrick was nowhere to be seen. We think he most likely overslept, but I'm a little annoyed that we waited an hour and a half for him and I won't end up shooting today. We don't know if we can film this weekend either because of sports and Jack might not be on campus. I get that 9 AM on a day without school might be a lot to ask, but he confirmed and said he was okay with the time! I got all of my gear ready too and stayed up later than I wanted to last night making sure my SD cards had space and my batteries were charged. I even got up early today to print everyone scripts and try and borrow a second Rode mic from Polk (too bad, my T5 doesn't have the right microphone jack). Kind of frustrating.
