If you want comfortable, long-session TV listening for toddlers, choose Sony RF Headphones; if you need a compact Bluetooth option for active use, choose Jaybird Tarah. For a toddler-focused setup at home, I’d lean toward Sony because its over-ear design and up to 13 hours of battery life suit longer listening better than an in-ear sport headset.
These are adult headphones, though, so neither should be treated as a purpose-built toddler model. Fit and supervision matter more than the feature list.

Both are described as adult headphones, not toddler-specific products, so fit and supervision matter. The main difference is simple: Sony is designed around a TV transmitter and home listening, while Jaybird is a Bluetooth headset made for workouts and movement.
• Sony RF Headphones: Over-ear listening, a transmitter connection, up to 150 feet of wireless range, and up to 13 hours of battery life. The trade-off is that they are built for home TV use, not compact Bluetooth listening.
• Jaybird Tarah: In-ear Bluetooth design, interchangeable silicone ear gels, sweat and water protection, and app-based sound adjustment. The trade-off is up to 6 hours of playtime and no stated noise control.
• Choose Sony for a child listening to TV at home with an adult managing the setup.
• Choose Jaybird for an adult who wants sport-oriented earbuds for workouts, calls, and Bluetooth devices.

Sony’s MDR-RF912RK is an over-ear wireless headphone system made for watching TV. Its transmitter dock connects to the TV, and the headphones receive audio over RF. The listed wireless range is up to 150 feet, which gives a listener room to move around the home without staying beside the screen. A self-adjusting headband and cushioned ear pads are intended to make longer listening sessions more comfortable.
The practical draw is stamina: Sony lists up to 13 hours of battery life. Its 40 mm dynamic drivers and noise-reduction system are designed to deliver detailed sound and reduce interference in the wireless signal. For a family choosing headphones for toddlers, those features make Sony the more natural match for supervised TV listening at home. They don’t, however, make it a toddler-sized or child-specific model.
I’d skip Sony if you need earbuds for a phone, an exercise session, or a headset you can pair directly with a Bluetooth device. The listed connection is RF, and the supplied setup is centered on a transmitter dock. Also, the sheet identifies the intended age range as adult. If you’re specifically searching for memory foam ear cushions headphones for toddlers, note that Sony’s listed cushions are described as cushioned, not memory foam.
Jaybird Tarah is an in-ear Bluetooth sport headset. It comes with three pairs of silicone ear gels and is designed to stay secure during workouts and running. Its listed IPX7 sweat and water protection suits exercise in wet conditions, and the Bluetooth connection works with Bluetooth-enabled devices. The cable controls and built-in microphone let the wearer manage music and calls without handling the phone for every adjustment.
The Jaybird’s clearest compromise is battery life: it provides up to 6 hours of playtime per charge. A 10-minute charge is listed as providing an hour of playback, which may help when time is short. The Jaybird app also offers customizable EQ, so listeners can adjust the sound rather than relying on one fixed setting.
This is a better fit for an adult who wants sport earbuds than for a toddler watching television. Jaybird does not list a TV transmitter, over-ear cushions, or noise control. It may appear in searches for a Bluetooth headset for toddlers, but the product details identify it as adult-sized and its sport-oriented in-ear fit is not a substitute for a child-specific design. For anyone searching for the best in ear headphones for toddlers, I would first look for a model explicitly designed for children.
• Best fit for TV listening at home → Sony RF Headphones. They connect through a transmitter dock, while Jaybird is designed for Bluetooth devices.
• Best for longer listening between charges → Sony RF Headphones. The listed battery life is up to 13 hours, compared with Jaybird’s up to 6 hours.
• Best for moving around the home → Sony RF Headphones. Their stated RF range is up to 150 feet from the transmitter.
• Best for workouts and running → Jaybird Tarah. Its sport fit, silicone ear gels, and IPX7 sweat and water protection fit that use.
• Best for phone calls and on-headset controls → Jaybird Tarah. It has an integrated microphone and controls for calls and music.
• Best for adjusting the sound through an app → Jaybird Tarah. Its companion app offers customizable EQ.
• Best match of these two for supervised toddler TV listening → Sony RF Headphones. The over-ear format and longer battery life line up better with that use, although the product is described for adults.
• Best if you specifically need a child-designed headset → Neither based on the listed details. Neither product is identified as toddler-specific.
In my opinion, I’d choose Sony RF Headphones for a toddler-focused home TV setup because the transmitter-based design and up to 13-hour battery life make more sense for longer listening than Jaybird’s sport earbuds.
That is a relative choice, not a claim that Sony is made for toddlers: its age range is listed as adult. I’d choose Jaybird Tarah for an adult who needs Bluetooth earbuds for workouts, water exposure, and calls—not for a child’s TV headset.
For supervised TV listening, Sony is the closer fit because it is over-ear, connects through a TV transmitter, and lists up to 13 hours of battery life. Both products are described for adults, so neither is presented as toddler-specific.
Jaybird Tarah connects over Bluetooth to Bluetooth-enabled devices. The product details do not list a TV transmitter, so Sony is the more direct choice when the setup is built around its transmitter dock.
Sony lists up to 13 hours of battery life. Jaybird lists up to 6 hours of playtime per charge, with a 10-minute charge providing an hour of playtime.
The product details describe Sony’s ear pads as cushioned, but do not specify memory foam. If memory foam is essential, the listed information does not establish that feature for Sony.
