If you want a compact, straightforward wired headphone for running, choose Sony MDRZX300/RED; if you need cushioned, foldable headphones for a child’s schoolwork and travel, choose rockpapa Comfort. Neither is a true wireless earbud or a noise-cancelling gaming headset, so the real choice is between Sony’s simpler on-ear design and rockpapa’s larger, foldable fit.
Sony MDRZX300/RED vs rockpapa Comfort at a Glance
• Sony MDRZX300/RED: A closed-type, on-ear wired design with 30 mm drivers, a 1.2 m cable and stated sound isolation. Its trade-off is that it does not fold and the data does not describe a sports-specific fit or wireless use.
• rockpapa Comfort: A foldable wired design with 40 mm drivers, soft ear cushions and a padded headband. Its trade-off is a longer 4.9 ft cable, no microphone and no volume control.
• Choose Sony if you want a simpler on-ear headphone with a shorter cable and a stated emphasis on clear mids and deep bass.
• Choose rockpapa if cushioned wear, foldable storage and a child-friendly school or travel role matter more.
• For running: Sony is the more compact-sounding match on paper, but neither model is listed as a true wireless or dedicated running headphone.
Sony MDRZX300/RED is a wired, closed-type supra-aural headphone: it rests on the ears rather than enclosing them. It has 30 mm dynamic drivers, a neodymium magnet and a 1.2 m cable connected on both sides. The listed audio range is 10–24,000 Hz, and the product information specifies a 3.5 mm jack. Sony describes the sound in terms of clear mids and deep bass, which gives a buyer a clearer picture of its intended character than driver size alone would.
That straightforward design suits someone who wants a wired pair for compatible devices and does not need a microphone, wireless connection or folding hinges. The shorter stated cable may be easier to manage than rockpapa’s 4.9 ft cord when a device is close at hand. Sony also lists sound isolation as a noise-control feature, but that should not be confused with active noise cancellation. The information does not say that the headphone electronically cancels outside sound.
How We Research
We compare products from their published specs and features; the verdicts below are our independent editorial opinions.

rockpapa Comfort is a wired headphone designed with children and school use in mind, though its listed age range also includes teens and adults. It has 40 mm dynamic drivers, oval ear pads, a padded headband and a foldable design with rotating hinges. The 3.5 mm cord is 4.9 ft long, and the plug is described as angled at 90 degrees. That longer reach may suit a desk, tablet or laptop setup where the listener is not sitting directly beside the device.
The product information highlights soft ear cushions and a lightweight design, while the feature description presents the headphones as portable and suitable for carrying on the go. The listed audio range is 20 Hz–20 kHz; the product information also gives 98 dB sensitivity and 32-ohm impedance. These figures describe the device, but they do not by themselves guarantee that it will sound better than Sony. The more practical distinction is the larger driver size and the emphasis on cushioned wear and folding storage.
The trade-offs are clear for a buyer choosing headphones for running. rockpapa has a longer cable, and its design is presented around school, travel and general listening rather than exercise. It has no microphone and no volume control, according to the listed features. Choose it if a child needs wired headphones that can fold into a bag and work with a device that has a 3.5 mm jack. Skip it if your priority is a compact running setup, a shorter cable or a microphone for calls and gaming. Despite the gaming theme in the product information, the listed features do not make it a dedicated gaming headset.
• Best match for a short, manageable cable → Sony MDRZX300/RED. Its cable is 1.2 m, compared with rockpapa’s 4.9 ft cord. Either cord can still move around during activity, so neither is a cable-free running solution.
• Best for foldable storage → rockpapa Comfort. Its rotating hinges and foldable design are intended to make it easier to pack away. Sony’s listed features do not describe folding hinges.
• Best for a child’s school or travel headphones → rockpapa Comfort. The product is positioned for children and students, with padded headband comfort and a foldable form.
• Best for stated clear mids and deep bass → Sony MDRZX300/RED. Sony specifically highlights those sound qualities. rockpapa describes rich bass and crisp midrange, so listeners who care about those traits may find both descriptions relevant.
• Best for larger listed drivers → rockpapa Comfort. It uses 40 mm drivers; Sony uses 30 mm drivers. That is a design difference, not proof that one will sound better.
• Best for a running-focused choice between these two → Sony MDRZX300/RED, with reservations. Its shorter cable makes it the more plausible fit for someone who insists on wired headphones, but neither model is described as running-specific or wireless.
• Best for a longer cord at a desk → rockpapa Comfort. Its 4.9 ft cable can offer more reach between a seated listener and a nearby device.
• Best if you need a microphone or built-in volume control → neither. rockpapa is explicitly listed without a microphone and without volume control; those features are not specified for Sony either.
The connection is another practical difference. Both products have a 3.5 mm jack, so the intended device needs a compatible port or an appropriate adapter. The information provided does not list Bluetooth for either one. Sony’s cable is specified as 1.2 m and attached on both sides; rockpapa’s cord is 4.9 ft and described as tangle-resistant. Those details matter more than driver size if you are deciding how the cable will sit during a commute, homework session or workout.
Comfort is difficult to reduce to a spec. Sony’s on-ear placement means the headphone rests on the ears. rockpapa is listed as over-ear, and its features emphasize soft cushions and a padded headband; its product information also describes the placement as over-ear. If you already know that you prefer a cushioned ear-pad style, rockpapa has the more explicit comfort-focused design. If you would rather avoid a larger folding pair, Sony is the simpler option, though its on-ear fit may not suit everyone.
My Verdict
For running, I would choose Sony MDRZX300/RED over rockpapa Comfort because its 1.2 m cable is shorter and its on-ear design is the more compact of these two options. That is a narrow, spec-based preference, not a claim that it is a dedicated running headphone.
I would buy rockpapa Comfort instead for a child’s school bag, travel or home listening, where the foldable hinges, soft cushions and longer cord are more useful. If running is the main job, I would still consider whether a wired headphone is the right format before choosing either.
Sony is the more plausible choice between the two because its listed cable is shorter at 1.2 m. However, both are wired, and neither is described as a sport-specific headphone or as having a wireless connection.
Neither is listed as having active noise cancellation. Sony specifies sound isolation, while rockpapa lists sound isolation as well. Sound isolation should not be treated as a claim of electronic noise cancellation.
rockpapa Comfort is the more clearly school-oriented option. It is designed to fold, has a padded headband and soft ear cushions, and uses a 4.9 ft cord. It also has no microphone or volume control, so check that those omissions fit the intended use.
Choose based on the setup rather than the gaming label alone. Both use a 3.5 mm jack, but rockpapa is explicitly listed without a microphone, and Sony’s listed information does not specify a microphone either. Neither is identified as a dedicated gaming headset, so someone who needs voice chat should look for a model with a confirmed microphone.
