If you want a dedicated, ultra-lightweight travel companion with a massive 14-hour battery specifically for airplane use, choose SONRU 5.3; if you need the absolute latest connectivity standard, dual-device pairing capability, and a versatile receiver mode for your home stereo, choose SYENGKKY 5.4.
• SONRU 5.3: Its biggest strength is its focused design for air travel with a robust 14-hour battery life in transmit mode, but it lacks the ability to pair with two headphones simultaneously or switch into receiver mode. This pick is for the frequent flyer who needs reliability above all else.
• SYENGKKY 5.4: It wins on versatility with Bluetooth 5.4 technology that allows connecting two devices at once and supports both transmitter and receiver modes, though its battery life is slightly shorter in TX mode compared to the SONRU. This pick is for the tech enthusiast who wants one gadget to handle planes, cars, and living room audio systems.
The SONRU 5.3 feels like it was built with one specific journey in mind: getting from Gate A to Gate B without worrying about power. That is a significant advantage for long-haul flights where charging ports are scarce or non-existent. While many adapters struggle to last through a red-eye flight, this unit is designed to keep going until you land. The inclusion of a Qualcomm chip ensures that the connection remains stable even in the crowded radio frequency environment of an aircraft cabin, reducing the frustration of dropouts during critical moments of a movie or a podcast.
Design-wise, the unit is constructed from ABS material, which suggests a durable, lightweight build perfect for slipping into a carry-on pocket. It comes equipped with dual 3.5mm airplane headphone adapters, a crucial detail for anyone traveling internationally or on older airline models that still rely on the classic dual-prong jack rather than USB-C or proprietary connectors. The device is strictly a transmitter; it takes audio from the seatback screen and sends it wirelessly to your Bluetooth headphones. It does not attempt to be everything to everyone. It focuses entirely on solving the problem of wireless audio on planes with a low-latency performance that keeps lip-sync intact.
You should buy the SONRU 5.3 if your primary use case is flying. It is the ideal choice for someone who values battery longevity over feature complexity. However, you should skip this model if you plan to use the adapter in your car or living room to stream music from your phone to a speaker system. Since it lacks a receiver mode, it cannot accept audio from your smartphone and play it through a non-Bluetooth device. If your travel habits extend beyond the airplane and include daily commuting or home entertainment, this device might feel too specialized for your needs.

The SYENGKKY 5.4 positions itself as a true 2-in-1 solution, leveraging the newest Bluetooth 5.4 protocol to offer flexibility that older standards simply cannot match. The standout feature here is the ability to connect two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. In a world where you might want to connect both your phone and a tablet to the same set of headphones, or perhaps share audio with a travel partner, this capability is a game-changer. Furthermore, the switch between Transmitter (TX) and Receiver (RX) modes makes it incredibly adaptable. You can plug it into a TV to send sound to your headphones, then flip it around to receive audio from your phone and blast it through your car's old-school AUX input.
The audio specifications suggest a focus on high-quality sound delivery, supporting various media types including MP3, WAV, AAC, and FLAC. This indicates that the adapter is capable of handling high-fidelity files without compression artifacts, which matters if you are listening to lossless tracks on a long drive or a quiet evening at home. The inclusion of noise cancellation features and a built-in microphone adds another layer of utility, allowing for hands-free calls while connected. The indicator lights provide clear visual feedback, flashing red for TX mode and blue for RX mode, so you never have to guess what the device is currently doing.
This product is best suited for the traveler who also has a busy digital life at home and in the car. If you own an older car stereo, a vintage home theater system, or a TV that lacks Bluetooth, the SYENGKKY 5.4 acts as a bridge, modernizing those devices instantly. However, there is a trade-off. While it offers more features, the battery life is listed as up to 14 hours in RX mode but drops to 11 hours in TX mode. If you are taking a 13-hour flight and forget to charge it, the SONRU might outlast it. But for most daily scenarios, the extra versatility of the SYENGKKY 5.4 outweighs the slight reduction in maximum flight time.
• Best for battery life on long flights → SONRU 5.3. With 14 hours in TX mode versus the SYENGKKY's 11 hours, the SONRU is the safer bet for intercontinental travel without access to power.
• Best for connecting multiple devices → SYENGKKY 5.4. Only this model supports pairing two Bluetooth devices simultaneously, making it superior for sharing audio or multitasking.
• Best for home and car audio upgrades → SYENGKKY 5.4. The RX mode allows you to turn non-Bluetooth speakers and stereos into wireless receivers, a feature the SONRU completely lacks.
• Best for older airline jacks → SONRU 5.3. It explicitly includes dual 3.5mm airplane adapters in the package, ensuring immediate compatibility with legacy aircraft systems.
• Best for the latest connectivity standards → SYENGKKY 5.4. Bluetooth 5.4 offers lower power consumption and faster, more stable transmission speeds than the 5.3 found in the SONRU.
• Best for simplicity and durability → SONRU 5.3. With fewer modes to toggle and a rugged ABS construction, it is a "plug-and-fly" device that requires zero configuration.
• Best for high-fidelity audio support → SYENGKKY 5.4. It lists support for FLAC and other high-res formats, suggesting a broader codec range for audiophiles.
• Best value for multi-environment use → SYENGKKY 5.4. One device replaces three: a transmitter, a receiver, and a modernization dongle for your existing audio gear.
I would personally choose the SYENGKKY 5.4 because its versatility solves problems I face daily, not just when I am on a plane. The ability to switch between transmitter and receiver modes means I can use this single adapter to upgrade my car stereo, listen to my TV wirelessly, and still connect to my headphones during travel. While the SONRU 5.3 has a slight edge in pure battery endurance for long flights, the SYENGKKY 5.4's Bluetooth 5.4 stability and dual-device pairing make it the more powerful tool for a modern lifestyle. For airplane use specifically, the SYENGKKY 5.4 is still an excellent choice, offering the best balance of battery life and connectivity for the open ear earbuds for airplane setups I often prefer. If you want the best rotatable ear cups open ear earbuds for airplane experiences combined with a robust adapter, the SYENGKKY handles the heavy lifting better.
Yes, the SYENGKKY 5.4 is compatible with any device that has a 3.5mm AUX output, which covers almost all commercial airline seat-back audio jacks, provided you have the appropriate cable.
Absolutely. With a claimed 14 hours of battery life in TX mode, the SONRU 5.3 is designed to cover most long-haul international routes without needing a recharge mid-flight.
Yes, both devices feature a built-in microphone that supports hands-free calling, allowing you to answer calls directly through your Bluetooth headphones when connected.
Both support stereo output, but the SYENGKKY 5.4 lists support for high-resolution codecs like FLAC and AAC, which may provide a richer audio experience for movies and music compared to standard streaming files.
