Hello Babylon Community!

My name is Dave Sonkin, and I am running for the Babylon School Board.

Babylon Village is an incredible place to raise a family. My wife, Donna, and I moved here in 2003 because we loved everything Babylon Village had to offer. Great schools, a vibrant downtown and an involved and caring community. Eighteen years and 3 kids later, our opinion hasn’t changed. We still see great schools and are so excited to see a return to the vibrant village we all love. Although we have faced quite a bit of uncertainty, we still see a community of people that care about each other, and most importantly, care about our children.

It is that sense of community that is really driving my decision to pursue the privilege of serving on the Board of Education. If you have children in the schools this year, you are aware of the struggles that students, families and educators have been navigating. We will continue to be challenged in the coming months, but with the right mindset and problem-solving skills, we will also continue to see Babylon Schools thrive. As a passionate educator, with 22 years in the Brentwood School District, I have that mindset and those problem-solving skills. With your support, I will let that passion guide my decision-making as I help to continue moving this district forward.

Service to the community is an important value in the Sonkin household. In addition to volunteering for and serving on the Elementary School reopening committee this past summer, I am an active member of the Babylon Booster Club, devoted to improving the student-athlete experience. I have been fortunate enough to coach many of Babylon’s children as part of the Village Lacrosse Board, the West Babylon CYC, the Babylon Little League and South Shore Flag Football League.

In closing, I can assure you that I will put our children’s needs first and work hard to bridge the gap among constituent groups. Building a strong, dependable and trustworthy relationship between the residents of this great village and those who are entrusted with our most precious resource is a priority for me.

I appreciate you taking a few minutes to read this bio. As a parent of young active children, I understand the demands put on our families. I respect and appreciate the sacrifices that we all make to provide our children with the best opportunities possible. With that in mind, I’m hopeful that I can count on your support.
