Do you know that your mind is writing stories or perhaps creating 3D films every day and night? Not just one movie but 4 to 5 in just 5-6 hours. And you are watching those 3D movies for free of cost. Some part of that movie, you will remember the next day and share with your friends. But 95% of the times, even though they might be extraordinary but you will forget the time you get out of the cinema hall. And sometime your mind present you an extremely frightening horror movie and you suddenly wake up while your body shakes like a leaf. But you can’t remember most part of that horror movie that dream that nightmare just after a few hours.
Dream is a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person’s mind during sleep. There are many theories about the why we dream but no one knows for sure. Some say they are representing unconscious desire and wishes. Some claim they are consolidating and processing information gathered during the day. And a few are more scientific or complex stating dreams are interpretation of random signal from brain and body during sleep. Some statements implies no connection to real events while some including Freud implies it is related. Some believe they are related to past and some believe they are related to future. Many experts says dream exists to help solve problems in our lives or process emotions. That means you go to bed with a troubling thought, you woke up with a solution. And who knows Roosevelt dream ended World War-II all thanks to his sweet dream.
Sigmund Freud, an Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis, believed dreams are a window into our subconscious or royal road to unconscious. In his one of the most significant works ‘Interpretation of Dreams’, Freud claimed that dream contents are selected from any part of dreamer’s life though the connection may be minor. But a study of 320 adult dream report had found that 16% of dream characters were unknown to dreamer i.e. not connected to his past. So it seems even Freud’s one is fictitious. Hence, the real reason of dreaming is still anonymous.
In conclusion, your mind shows you 5-6 movies every night. They range from normal and ordinary to overly surreal and bizarre. Your mind can prepare movie of various genres, such as being frightening, exciting, magical, melancholic, adventurous, or sexual. In reality you might not be that creative to write a short story but at night you’re a great writer. You might not be good enough with pencils to even draw a face of a person and you personify a man with stickman but at night you become great artist that drawing a face of a person you have never seen is a piece of cake.
Human brain is very powerful and creative but may be it is just bad at memorizing. Or maybe your brain is not hundreds of terabytes as scientist proclaims. Or your brain’s hard disk might be out of space after storing millions of movies that you have seen every day and night. Now just conceptualize if your brain had more space, imagine the number of great stories that might come out on this world. Had your brain been better at memorizing, imagine how many J.K. Rowlings or Shakespeares would have been born. If you could just remember all the nightmares, imagine the number of extra-ordinary blockbuster horror movies would have been released. Who knows may be one of the reasons for unemployment in the world is due to inability of a person to realize his dreams. Everyone knows ‘Harry potter’. How can anyone write or even think such vast and perfect story? Sometime I suspect that J.K. Rowling acquires some kind of supernatural power to remember her dreams and harry potter was discovered in her dreams.
But from another viewpoint, maybe it is god’s will that a person is not remembering his dreams. Or else there might be too many J.K. Rowlings that she gains no importance. If there were many stories as Shakespeare’s, would we value his greatness? Imaginably not remembering dreams is also another perfect example of this perfectly balanced nature, or else everyone would be a writer and there would be no ENGINEERS or doctors. Maybe all the gods had a meeting and took this decision or else there would have been too many writers that this world would have NO writers.
Well in contradiction with last viewpoint, maybe god is not against people’s brain remembering dreams and want people remember those brilliant stories. And they designed people brain or mind in such way that in some case it shows you same movies for many days. We all have recurring dreams, don’t we? There are many cases that people sees similar dreams like falling from height or losing your tooth. All of us also have seen an embarrassing dream of being naked in public and had those life threatening ghost chase in our nightmares. May be god want people to see similar movie so that people will work as a team to create a masterpiece. We all have 4-5 alarm clocks on our mobiles but how many times have you slept till 8 o’clock? Your mind is so creative that sometimes it changes its movie script and incorporated those alarm clocks into your dreams as if those alarms is a part of your dream. May be all the gods are on our side or explain me why they design our mind to be such impeccable script writer.
The real truth might be that you are a very creative person and you are just valuing yourself very low. It is said that the events in dreams are generally outside the control of the dreamer. But maybe you are controlling or creating or thinking your dreams but you are not realizing. So next time when people tell you that you are not creative enough tell them that you are a story writer. If your friends blabber about the movies they have seen, tell them that you have seen millions of movies. If next time people say you are not good enough, tell them, “Dude if only you could watch the movies I made.” And same goes to you if you are the one who blabbers because not only you but everyone is a great writer. Not only you but everyone has 100 creativity level. Not only you but everyone is a genius.
