Review on Machine Learning Course on FreeCodeCamp

FreeCodeCamp is a non-profit organization that focuses on making learning the programming language, especially python, accessible to everyone. FreeCodeCamp also provides certification on completing the pre-defined course works. In most of their courses, learners have to watch a video and answer a multiple-choice question based on that video concurrently. After completing video courses, freeCodeCamp requires a learner to complete some tasks independently to get a certification. For example, learners have to write five python programs that encapsulate various machine learning techniques covered in the course.

'Machine Learning with Python' is one of the most popular certification courses in freeCampCode. Machine Learning is a growing field that is catching the eye of data science enthusiasts and researchers. The course consists of total interactive video learning of about eleven hours. It includes about eight hours of tensor-flow course and three hours of how neural network works. After completion of video learning, learners have to write codes for five different techniques to demonstrate that they have acquired the required skill for the freeCampCode certificate.

Personally, I am satisfied with the course. The tutor for the tensor-flow course has assembled a bunch of tensor-flow codes to create a course work. What I liked the most about the teaching way of the tutor was his transparency. He tells you what to expect, what topic he will delve into in detail, and what he will only superficially explain. The second part of the course work - How Neural Network Works - consists of four popular youtube videos focused on neural networks and their methodologies. After video course completion, I had to pass five tests to get my certificate. Those five tests were challenging. It took me about a week for the whole 12 hours of video learning, but it took a couple of weeks just for writing those five codes. Those tests will make you look up machine learning methods, which will enhance your skill and confidence in machine learning. And yeah, it is FREE.

But there is some room for improvements too. I liked how the tutor took an example of a machine learning methodology and explained the method with that example. But I felt the theoretical potion was weak in some portion of the course. For instance, in the convoluted neural network portion, the tutor explains an example of the detection of an object in the image. But, it would be better if he mentioned whether it is used in another field. If yes, where and how? But again, for that purpose, we can google it ourselves. Finally, the course only introduces us to the TensorFlow module. There are some other widely used modules, such as ski learn. Though I understand the time constraint in the course, a small portion covering a basic introduction to these modules will help the learner understand what to look for next.

Overall, I believe this course is worth your time. I started with minimal knowledge about machine learning. After completing this course, I have understood various methods, and most importantly, I have got enough confidence to write machine learning codes myself. In other words, I have got enough confidence for one of the most effective ways of learning - learning by doing. Recently, freeCampCode have announced new curriculum for data science course. The syllabus of this course is very exciting, as it includes supervised and unsupervised machine learning, data analysis methods, calculus, and many-more.
